Did you guys know that Kwang Soo is in an upcoming movie? That in itself is not really big news, he’s been in a fair amount of Korean movies and dramas, and variety, and lets not forget his goofy CF spots. What makes this more interesting? The movie Good Friends is actually a serious drama and, in turn, Kwang Soo will be playing his first really serious role.
I wonder he is going to be able to pull it off? Don’t get me wrong, I love Kwang Soo. I’m a big fan of Kwang Soo. However, with every role he takes, whatever piece he’s in, he always plays Kwang Soo. Kwang Soo the goofy comic relief with the heart of gold. I have a hard time separating him the person from him the actor. Now is that because he’s not that capable an actor or is it because he just always takes the same sorts of roles?
I’m really hoping it’s the latter rather than the former.
But this time around, he’s pushing his limits and has taken a role in a movie which has dark overtones. And he’s one of three stars, the others being Ji Sung, who I love
Here is the synopsis from MyDramaList: Three men have been friends since their school days. They do some something, believing it would be nice, but that act connects to them a crime and their friendship ends. Hyun-Tae works as a paramedic and has one daughter. He has a strong sense for justice. In-Chul works as an insurance agent, but is known as a swindler. Min-Soo runs a small business. He relies on his two good friends like family.
Kwang Soo looks quite dark in the stills that have been released so far, so I’m cautiously optomistic for him. Side note, anyone else think that now that his buddy Song Joong Ki is off to do his military service, Kwang Soo is using the opportunity to step up his game? Not sure why but it tickles me to no end. Consider my fingers crossed for him.
Good Friends opens in Korea sometime in July. I’m guessing the chances of it coming here to NY is probably pretty slim–maybe Free Korean Movie Night will get it.
Maybe I could suggest it. Hmm…..
