Favorite Songs of 2014!

Favorite Kpop songs of 2014

Yep, I’ll admit it, this was supposed to be a Top Five list of the songs of 2014, but you know what? A crap-ton of music came out this year and I just could not limit myself to five. It can’t be done! So I cheated. I’m a Cheater McCheaterson, lets just accept it and move on.

Actually, before we do, a disclaimer. As I said above, there was a crap-ton of music last year. How did I make this list? Well, a song just can’t be–oh, that’s good–move on to the next one. To be on the list it has to be something that I liked enough to put on a playlist and listen to it over and over again. Now that is the mark of a truly excellent song.
This song is probably one of my favorite finds of the entire year. I had no idea who they were, it was just a random click, and a fascination was born. I need to find more music like them or at least be able to find this CD. If this is any indication to the rest of their music, they just might rival Nell.

Jun Bum Sun & The Yangbans, The Seven Year Itch

Talk about a single song changing your life–I refused to listen to B1A4 whenever Cherry suggested them, but when I found this song and video, I have been a gonner. I loved them at KCon, and then I even forked out the cash for a floor ticket to the NYC concert. These guys might not be my normal cup of tea, but they are so happy and infectious–they just make me happy.
B1A4, Solo Day

No surprise here, I heart Nell. I heart Nell so hard their music makes me want to cry. I heart Nell so hard I would travel anywhere to see them. (Hmm….I heard they have an annual Christmas concert in Korea…)
Nell, Four Times Around The Sun

These are some bad-ass ladies. Not only do I listen to this song on repeat–it’s also one I hit pretty often at the noreabang. Badly of course, but still so much fun. Unfortunately, because of Park Bom’s ‘scandal’ and CL working on her US premier, I have a feeling it’s going to be quite a while before we get anything new from our favorite girl-group.
2NE1, Come Back Home

One would think the obvious option would be Taeyang’s original version, and while yes, that’s a very good song, it’s Tablo’s cover of the song which would be on repeat on my phone for days on end. And I’ll never forget  belting this out with Cherry Cordial, Kate, and the Mystical Being of Unicorns in the car at KCon. Tablo is just so amazing! His English lyrics makes me wish I spoke Korean as his words are like poetry. In this case hate-filled poetry, but poetry never the less…
Tablo X Taeyang, Eyes, Nose, Lips

Yep, I love all of BTS’s songs. All of them. There are rumors afloat that they are coming here to the states and I’ll be first in line when they do.
BTS, Boy In Luv

You know me, I’m not a big fan of girl groups, but since seeing this video, Spica has been on the short list of girl groups who don’t irritate me–and seeing them live at Kcon only cemented that. They have powerful voices, a unique pov, and a lack of aegyo which is refreshing.
Spica, You Don’t Love Me

Yep, another total cheat! I tried to decide between 30Sexy and LA Song, but I just couldn’t do it. Not only are these songs fun to strut too down the street too (go ahead, give it a try), they are both songs which once you hear them (or even hear something that reminds you of them) they are instantly stuck in your head for at least a week.
Rain, 30Sexy & LA Song

A late addition to the list, there is something about Seo Taiji’s music that just gets me. I love the big swell of the instrumentals paired with his…unique vocals–it’s oddly alluring.
Seo Taiji, Christmalo

Believe it or not the first time I ever heard this song was in a cutey little stationary shop. If you’ve heard the song, you’ll understand why it stood out to me. Anyway, Bobby is now a member of the soon (hopefully) to be released YG group Ikon. The husky sound of his voice is not something you hear in a lot of Korean music. Before his group has even premiered, Bobby has already become a hot commodity–working with a lot of already established artists such as Epik High. I see big things for him.

Bobby, Go

So these are my favorite songs of 2014–what are some of yours?
