Podcast Episode 25: Kdrama Technical-itis

Posted by Cherry Cordial on May 15, 2015

Due to technical issues, it took us three, count it three, times to record this podcast. It’s a good thing we love you guys or we may have chucked it out the window. Of course, because of this, this may be the only time where I fall asleep while podcasting. DON’T JUDGE ME! I was very tired. Besides that sleepy moment, we have an interesting, and for once, shorter podcast.

It’s our 25th episode! Which we’d be more excited about 1) if we hadn’t had to record so many times and 2) if our one year anniversary wasn’t a mere episode away. Today we’re talking what we’re watching, the long awaited return of Khottie, anticipation for Orange Marmalade, Cherry reports on the Korean Music Festival, and then we answer some listener questions on soothing Kpop videos, and suggestions for what Korean movies we’d suggest to someone trying to hook her husband in.

BigBang – Bae Bae

Listener Question

So what is you and Cherry’s favorite soothing kpop video? And do you use them for other things? (I like WOW by B2B and Rocking by Teen Top when I need to wake up.) I also love Super Junior’s No Other and B1A4 Solo Day for putting me in a better mood.

My husband and I have made bargain and I found myself in need of some recommendations. He has agreed to watch THREE Korean movies of my choice if I will play three hours of an online video game of his choice. I know that I want to show him Secretly Greatly, but I am not sure which I should choose for the other two. I was hoping you two might have some suggestions. I am avoiding horror films because he already loves those and I want him to branch out. We love to laugh, he is ok with some romance, but not SUPER cheesy. Thoughts?

If you have a listener question you’d like to ask us, be it drama related, casting, recommendations, really anything you can think of, please let us know. We can be reached via our website contact form, podcast@kchatjjigae.com, or if you’d like to leave a voicemail we could play on the air give us a call at 1-347-674-9310.

Taemin Quote & Gifset
Okay, so I found a hilarious quote about Taemin from SHINee, on Tumblr, and shared it with Stephanie, who laughed out loud in the coffee shop she was in at the time, then blamed me. Here’s the link.

Then I came across a gifset that illustrated part of the quote quite well, and of course, I also shared that with Stephanie, who proceeded to yell at me because she was in public, and it’s maybe not so safe for work, or around kids, or your parents, so be warned… NSFW. Here’s the link.

Hlin – 그대를그린다

Black Skirts – International Love Song

Rain – 30Sexy

NOM – A Guys

Miyavi – Guard You

B1A4 – O.K

During the music section, Stephanie referenced the ultimate teen angst songs, Fake Plastic Trees and Creep—these are both songs by Radiohead.

Stephanie would like to apologize to the following
  • Anyone listening—she didn’t get a chance to do a pre-listen, so this episode may be horribly flawed.
  • To Man Child’s future wife, not for anything she said, but just because.
  • To Heechul, for saying Hong Ki was a weirdo, you know you’re the only real beloved weirdo in her life.
  • To Rain, for singing 30Sexy in public.
  • Cherry Cordial, for falling asleep while you were talking. She promises never to podcast from bed again.

Thanks for listening! See you next time.

Great episode! It came at the perfect time because yesterday I had to drive an hour and a half to close a garage door (long story). Your suggestions for the person who will be watching with their husband were very useful. I watched Tazza 2: Hidden Card with mine and he thought it was pretty good. Predictability can totally ruin a movie for him (and there is some pretty heavy handed foreshadowing there) but overall it is a pretty slick film that might interest him.
Unfortunately predictable plot turns are rather common in Korean films and dramas, and while I can kind of enjoy the Birth Secret or Sudden Amnesia or whatever, it makes my dear husband rather wary. I really want him to watch A Dirty Carnival and Gangnam Blues but I’m afraid he’ll just think it is the same movie because of similarities.

So I was driving while listening and might have zoned out when you mentioned it but I see UNIQ on the notes and just want to say I just started listening them and quickly watched everything they have ever been in that is subbed. They were on After School Club last week and the section where they showed EO EO dance has better camera angles than the music shows. Is it crazy to hope that they come to KCON? I feel like it is a reach because they just debuted and their work is already split up between Korea and China. They did say on ASC they would like to come to New York sometime though…. if they come to NY and not LA I will be very sad because I’m moving from the East Coast to the West Coast this week.

P.S. Cherry–I found the T.O.P. Instagram that Stephanie doesn’t want to talk about. . . it was everything I hoped for.

How fun to have a question answered on a podcast! I just heard it last night – thanks for all of the recommendations! Hope to see you at KCON – your encouragement (plus Super Junior!) has convinced me to go for it.

My first Bollywood film was Dil Chata Hai. I highly recommend it…if you have three hours to spare. Great movie.
