Murim’s About to School Us, Are You Ready?

Stephanie wants to watch a high school drama? Is she feeling okay?

Guys, seriously, guys. the more I hear about the upcoming drama, Moorim School, the more I can not wait to see it! Which can only mean that this drama is going to go horribly wrong, right? *ahem*thevillage*ahem* This drama looks like it has all the ingredients to be a really cool event.

Usually, I’m not a huge fan of the high school romance dramas and can probably count on one hand the amount of them I’ve actually sat through. Actually, lets try: Playful Kiss, Answer Me 1997, Boys Over Flowers, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Soul, and it looks like that is it. Exactly 5.Oh wait, Dream High—which brings the total to 6. Sad.

Moorim School though, has been on the radar since news first was released—despite the fact they seem to be packing the cast with idols. Le sigh. So what is different about this one from allll of the other high school dramas? Well, to be honest it was the first character posters. Take a look:

You mean to tell me this show is about an odd ball mystical high school?  Count. Me. In! The show is basically going to be broken up into two parts, the first part, I’m sure will be all of the strife of the high schoolers bumping heads, as high schoolers will. I’m sure there will be a down on their luck person who will be introduced to the mystical community and will instantly be an outsider. There will be an alpha (usually this will be a male as to make for an automatic romantic pairing) who instigates the instant dislike  to the newbie. Then in the second half of the story they are going to have to band togehter to protect the school from…..something. In my brains I’m seeing part Harry Potter, part the sections of X-Men that took place in the school.

This makes for all parts Stephanie excited.

It’s not all sunshine and lollipops though Looking at the teaser,

I wonder if this is not going to be as cool and mystical as those initial posters suggested. If they get me excited and then it’s a case of bait and switch? I will be cranky. Very cranky. The other thing is that with the descriptions and the new posters, the drama seems like it’s going to be a bit more boy heavy than I originally thought.

That’s a bit of a disappointment. Here’s hoping we get a few kick butt (possibly literally) lady characters in this drama who aren’t just accessories to the strong boys parts. Murim3

This drama starts in about a week and it is in strong contention for the next drama that Jacqueline and I do our weekly chats on. (The other drama, Signal is also rising fast on the list.)

So, are you excited about this drama?

Blog about this one a lot – I love a fresh-faced idol drama with a lot of romance as much as the next Noona but this one screams “based on weird Japanese high school drama.” You know, there are two kinds of Japanese high school dramas.

    1) heavy on the romance and good looking couples – usually based on a shojo manga. Sometimes, even with real (!!!) sex scenes. I watch these as a palate cleanser between episodes of Breaking Bad.

AND 2) Weird ones. The kind with Yankee gangs or robots or kids infected with alien eyes. Don’t believe me? Try Cromartie High or All Esper Dayo! – that exclamation point is actually part of the title. While I think Korean dramas do revenge excellently well, odd seems to not be a k-drama strong suit.

So, better you than me, Stephanie. I’m taking “The Village” route on this one and waiting until it’s over to decide.

I’m gonna give this one a shot. I’m okay with weird. With good writing and decent acting, it could be a lot of fun. I’m certainly hoping so!
