From time to time, I get a song stuck in my head. When that happens, I just want to listen to it and watch the music video all the time. Yeah – it’s borderline obsessive compulsive. Maybe I need help. But to be honest, I’m actually okay with it. Cause the songs I usually obsess over are awesome – and they make me happy. Right now, that’s Day6’s Congratulations.
Thank you, Stephanie, for letting me share my current obsession on your blog post. My apologies – in advance – if you all become just as obsessed with Day6. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! 🙂
So, here’s the deal with Day6: they were initially called “5LIVE” but ended up debuting mid 2015 as “Day6”. They are a six-member group under JYP Entertainment. They remind me a bit of CNBLUE, but maybe that’s just because they’re a band. Their sound is Krock with the a touch of the optimistic vibe of Kpop, which I love.
A quick synopsis of the Congratulations song/music video: a girl breaks up with a boy, but he thinks they’re just taking some time off. He doesn’t realize it’s truly the end of the relationship. In the music video, he’s sitting in the subway, and she shows up with her new boyfriend. This song is everything he’s experiencing as he sits on the Subway watching her with her new guy. You see flashes of their relationship – how they seemed so happy together. You can see how crushed he is, how bitter, but then he decides to move on. It’s a surprisingly upbeat-sounding song, considering what it’s about. Somehow, it works.
I love the sound of this song, but I was first introduced to it by watching the music video, which is really good. Why? Well, you can see for yourself in the music video link below. I happen to love that the star of this video is Choi Woo Shik. If you watched last year’s Kdrama, Ho Goo’s Love, you’ll know who I’m talking about. CWS was the main lead in that show, and he was freaking adorable. In that Kdrama, his character was an unconventional male lead – the underdog nice guy. He’s a good actor, and his face is so expressive. He was perfectly cast for this music video. So, yeah – that has something to do with my obsession.
Then there’s the yummy sound of this song, starting off with the velvety vocals of Park Jae Hyung (aka member with the glasses). All the members have beautiful voices, and they’re talented musicians. I particularly like the raspy-voiced rap by Young K, who has some serious swag. All of it adds up to a memorable song experience.
I hope you’ll like this song as much as I do! Enjoy!
