This week, Conan O’Brien announced on his late night show that he will be visiting South Korea after he received a letter and gift from a fan.
A South Korean fan, Sunny Lee, wrote to Conan stating that she had been watching clips of his show online rather than studying for her SAT exam. In fact, she used her test sheets as the stationary for her letter written both in English and Hangul. The fan also sent along a variety of Korean snacks, which Conan joked were already devoured by a member of his staff. Conan responded to the letters by announcing that he will be heading to South Korea to see the fan beginning February 14th and will take the show there for five days. Responding to fan mail by visiting that fan’s country? Conan is awesome.
I have seen different thoughts on what Conan will do while in South Korea such as trying soju, experiencing local culture, meeting fans and participating in variety shows. One bit of news that has been announced by JYP Entertainment is that he is set to do a project with Park Jin-Young (*JYP* because, as Stephanie noted, it must always be whispered). While there are no details other than the two have both cleared their schedules for a day, I cannot wait to see what is going to come from that collaboration.
The episode will air once Conan returns to the states and I am looking forward to seeing footage of his experiences. I think it would be great to see him on Running Man or Infinity Challenge.
I love that this is all because of a fan reaching out to him. Maybe this will work for other celebrities as well. Who knows? It’s worth a shot. As Conan states in the video below: “If you send me free snacks from your country, I will travel there in person to thank you”.
What do you think of Conan O’Brien’s response to his fan? What do you think that he should try while in South Korea?
Here’s a video of Conan being greeted by fans upon his arrival!

He definitely wasn’t expecting that many people to be at the airport.
What an cute thing for her to do and an awesomesauce response from him. And how great for him to get such a huge welcome. He totally didn’t expect that. And she got to greet him. How fun for her. (I wonder what her parents think?)
I agree with both of you that he was definitely surprised. I loved the look on his face!
Tekzey, I’m sure that both she and her parents were surprised with his response. I’d be happy or her…although they may not have been pleased about her using studying time. Haha
Grasshoppers, I vote that he tries grasshoppers.
I am going to South Korea in September and fully anticipating this type of reception….what are the chances?
Ooooh! Have fun! Come back with lots of tales!
