The Possible Return of Lee Sun Gyun

Casting News

Here is some interesting news on the drama casting front: Lee Sun Gyun, who we haven’t seen gracing drama land since Miss Korea  a few years ago, is contemplating his return.

To which I say, Wahoo!

It’s no surprise when I say I’ve been a huge fan of Lee Sun Gyun since his b-lead role in the ever iconic, ever relevant Coffee Prince . From there I was a fan of him in the movie Romantic Island , before finally settling into my all-time favorite drama, Pasta .

Yes, Chep!

While it’s been a while since he’s been on TV, it’s not like he’s been lounging around resting on his Korean word for laurels. Quite the opposite. No, Lee Sun Gyun spends most of his time focusing on his very busy film career. And when I say busy, this man regularly jam packs his schedule with projects we here in the States are probably not going to have the opportunity to see.

Anyway, Lee is currently considering his comeback–to a Jctb cable network drama no less. As I’m a huge fan of the cable networks, this just makes the news more interesting. It seems as though cable is really starting to lure in some big names. I’m not sure if it’s their quality, the variety in scripts (cable more apt to take chances) or, from what I hear, the more humane filming schedule but, whatever it is, I just want to tell them to keep up the hard work.

Side note : At Kcon, I passed the tvN booth and legit had to fight off the urge to go over and tell them to keep up the good work. As I didn’t want to be THAT weirdo.

This Week My Wife Will Have An Affair is a drama based on a Japanese original about a man who thinks he’s found out his wife is about to have an affair, then goes around to try and make amends to get her to stay.

Hmmm…I’m not sure how I feel about that. While I love me some Lee Sun Gyun, I really dislike cheating storylines–hits my automatic ugh button. From the sounds of it though, I’m going to put my money on it all being a giant misunderstanding–although this is the same channel which put on Secret Love Affair, so who knows. Whatever it is, I’m just happy that Lee Sun Gyun has not complete written off dramas.

No one is probably more excited than I on his tv comeback. I am wishing hard that this drama takes the comedy route because surely there is a lot of hijinks potential to be milked based on the premise. Now who would you like to see as his leading lady?
