Top Five

heart hands

You know the ones I’m talking about, the couples that, if not steal the show directly from our main couple, they are definitely one (and two) of the main reasons you watch. Here is my list of the Top 5 Side Couples.

Discovery of Romancediscovery-of-romance

Why not start with the best? Hands down the evolution of this couple and their turn from faux family to a couple way more adorable and memorable than the main leads? You know it’s good when you plan a rematch just so you can watch their bits.

Flower Boy Next Doorflowerboynextdoor

Yep, we all have big, fluffy love bunnies for our boy Enrique and his ahjumma. He demands nothing less. But the artist roommate and the comic editor? How cute were they together? (I’m thinking it’s no surprise she has show up twice on this list.) These two delightful oddballs deserve each other in the best way.

Love Sick: The Serieslovesick

Uhm! Mick! The two guys who just could not get their acts together, but they are teenagers experiencing their first crushes so, completely forgivable. Plus their awkward highlighted just how perfect Noh and Phuns were. Double plus? Mick is the most adorable thing around, how can you not love them???

King 2 Heartsking2hearts

This is a couple that, when you look back at the drama, this is what you see. Yes, the main couple were good, but in hindsight, are completely overshadowed by the princess and her bodyguard. Could it be because SPOILER ALERT EVEN THOUGH THIS SHOW IS A MILLION YEARS OLD AND GIF SETS ARE A THING it ends so tragically? You liked him, you wanted good things for him, and he loved her, which means we wanted her for him. And when it didn’t work out that way? I sobbed like someone in my own family had died.

Faithfaith 2

I’ll admit it, I have a Ryu Deok Hwan bias due to my love for him as Dr. Han, he is just one of those under appreciated actors. However, he as the king who has been returned to the throne by the bad guys, who wants to do what’s right for his country but lacks the power to do so, and the political wife he’s saddled with? Wouldn’t make you stop and go awwww…. but the slow burn this show allows this couple to have gives meaning and heft to the short time they are on screen and the improbable love they find.

So there it is, my top 5 Favorite Side Couples. As usual, I did not peek at Mydramalist to remember what I watched. These were the ones I distinctly remember, which means they really were something.

I also nominate the Tin Man couple in Wild Romance, with the openly libidinous but virginal girl who terrifies yet fascinates the rigid, uptight Secretary dude. It was adorable and sexy watching her melt his frosty exterior and uncover the passionate heart underneath. The other one I can think of is the B lead couple in High Society, who absolutely out-charmed the A leads, Uee and Sung Joon.

GAH! I still have to watch Make It Right! Is it good? I mean, it can’t be Love Sick good, but is it close? Or in the same ballpark?
