Musical Monday: The Newfound Nell Edition

Posted by Stephanie on September 19, 2016

With all the new music currently being thrown at me (Dude. I just realized I still haven’t listened to the new Bobby or Bi or Bobby/Bi. I was told when it came out most seemed disappointed but I meant to go back and never did. I just hope I like them more than I enjoy iKON as a whole…and I just sidetracked myself right in the first sentence.) I missed the important fact that my favorite band, Nell came back with new music. (Oh. But what about BTS? OOOH and BigBang? Okay then, Nell is my favorite instrument playing group.) And this is a very important release as it is the first from the group since their split with Woollim Entertainment and the formation of their own label.

The verdict?

The song Dreamcatcher is good. Nell seems to have shaken off the, I don’t want to say staleness of the last couple of songs, but this does seem like they’ve taken the Nell sound out of the closet and gave it a good shaking off to air it out.

Now I’m not sure if this goes for the whole album or not, but they do seem to have lost a bit of the dreamy quality to their sound. This song had a lot more electric aspects to it, actually reminding me of one of my all time favorite American bands, The Killers. Reading the lyrics though, it makes you realize Nell still has it — that way with music, with words that grab at those heartstrings and yank on them until you cry uncle. (Or maybe that’s just me.)

So verdict?  Nell’s still got it. And for that, I am grateful and will continue to cross my fingers that they will finally make the fudging track to NY.

Nell, Dreamcatcher

At my house, we call Kim Jong-wan the most dumped man in Korea. All his songs are about lost loves – not that I mind!

Awwww…. If I promise not to dump him can I have him?? I promise I’ll take very good care of him.

I’ve tried listening to Nell before but the songs were just such downers for me. Dream Catcher I really like and after listening to the whole album on YouTube twice in a row, I bought C. It tickles me that they a song called “Vain Hope” followed immediately by “Let the Hope Shine.”

LAUGH! I do love me some downer music. (As I currently listen to my Pandora playlist, ManFeelings, where Nell would fit right in. Yeah, they seem to be moving away from the Feelings part of their music, well, the moody part, but it’s okay, I still love them.
