Musical Monday: The Prepping For CL/Girls Night Edition

noraebangThis is not so much a Musical Monday post as it is a look at how nerdy I am post. Yes, that’s a thing, I just made it one. So. This weekend is the CL concert/Stephanie birthday celebration!  Just as an update, yes, Kate persuaded me to buy a ticket to the CL concert. She had a convincing argument.

It went something like this…

“If I’m hauling my butt all the way there from NH, you’re effing going to that concert.”

How can you say no to such logic? I couldn’t, and so I dipped into my moving fund and purchased myself a ticket. Despite her logic, I still had trouble with it. Until Kate reminded me of something else—my birthday is November 2nd. Technically this is my birthday weekend. So rather than this being an unjustified splurge, it’s really a perfectly justifiable birthday celebration.

Worked for me!

As I’m an in for a penny, in for a pound sort of girl, I didn’t stop there. I convinced Regina to buy a ticket and even my non-kpop listening, non-kdrama watching, non-kanything friend Azy even agreed to shell out money to buy a ticket for a person she’d never heard of before. Wahoo!

Then, since bigger is, of course, better I turned it into a whole thing. We’re going to the concert, then we’re going to Ktown for Korean BBQ, and THEN we’re hitting the noraebang. Yep, we’re gonna party like cool people. Or at least we’re going to not go home until Sunday.

I am So. Freaking. Excited.

This, of course, is where the planning comes in. It has been a very long time since I have made a fool out of myself and others at the noraebang. It all seems like fun and games until you realize you can’t read Korean and what you think your singing while singing along at home is actually something like this.

“Mumble, mumble, English word, mumble.”

And it gets worse when you are actually at the noraebang when all you have are instrumentals and hangul on the screen to back you up.

Which get a bunch of kpop freaks together, it doesn’t really matter, right? Right. Except, there is Azy. Non-kpop fan Azy, who has no idea of the world of drunken mumble-mumbles coming her way. Yes, she knows we’re going to the noraebang, she’s been to one before. With her own friends. Singing English songs. Luckily Azy is the coolest (she is the one should shelled out cash for this thing on the mere mention of my idea) so it’s gonna be fine.

There is also me. I hate the mumble-mumbles. It’s like I forget all the song without the artist there in my ears to back me up. I’ve had this thought before, you know what would be better? If the screen showed the romanization. A little sound-out aid.

So I’m making one for myself. Yep, I’m going around trying to find all the songs I’d want to do, hunting down the romanization, and am putting it into a book. Gah. Can you smell the nerd from here?

It’s going to be a good time. Question to you, if you could sing a song at a noraebang,  what song would you choose?

And finally. If you are going to be in the New York area on Saturday and would like to join us for, what can only be called Stephanie’s k-palooza, let me know, we’ll be happy to have you!

Wait! One more finally. You know Kate? Sure you do, Kate the CL pusher. Yeah, Kate accidentally bought herself a premium ticket! She was like, “They made a mistake and charged me a huge service fee!” Nope, she bought the meet CL ticket. She’s going to meet her and have her picture taken with her. Something makes me want to put that accidentally in quotes…

Noraebang? Oh, I wish I could come celebrate with you! My plan for Korean noraebang was always either 2ne1’s I am the Best or Tablo’s version of Taeyangs’s Eye’s Nose Lips which is conveniently all in English. How about Rain’s La La song?
