The Voice Echos Closer

a5fba8b31f084f968b4e5bc862859f2dWhich might be the dumbest title I’ve ever come up with. And this comes from the girl who coined the term ‘khottie’. Rember when we were very excited about the upcoming show The Voice? This of course was when Bae Doona was thinking about joining up. Then she passed, but it was okay because we still had the angst-tastic uber hero, Jang Hyuk?

Yeah, remember that show?

Well, they’ve finally ended the lead actress merry-go-round they were on and completed their casting. Of course, this means it’s time to start to get to the real business of pre-show: the teasers. As this show is a thriller, I’m guessing the teasers are going to be high on tease and less on plot.

Let’s take a look:

Yep. I’m sure if I spoke Korean I’d understand more, but as a resident in the world where scary movies exist, I think we all get the gist. Girl in trouble. Rain ponchos are the mark of the devil. Seems about right, right? Yeah, I thought so.

We also now have more information on what the plot has shaken out to be and eh, I’m a little disappointed. Hero, legendary cop out to avenge his dead wife. This we’ve seen. Woman is essentially a brilliant profiler. Yeah, this is not as known an entitiy but I was kind of stuck on the idea of the heroine being a worker at a 911 call center. Now that is a world we never see, be it in Kdrama or even here in the states. For some reason it tickled my storytelling spider senses.

I might just be a jerk here, as no, it’s not like we see a lot of the brilliant or profilers in kdrama and I do love a character where the woman is just as smart, just as good at her job as the hero. So often we’ve got those candy characters who are plucky and street smart but it all ends right about there. (Howelse could the hero swoop in and save her if she isn’t flustered and over stuffed with aegyeo?)

It could be because I’m currently watching When A Snail Loves where the heroine is a profiler in training, so I may have caught my fill there. (Is anyone else watching this show? What do you think? I legitimately can’t decide and I’m almost half way through.)

All this being said though, I think I’d still like to check out the show as I am a fan of the show who is out of the norm. I think cable channels are the ones who can properly pull this sort of show off. I love Jang Hyuk and I’ve been patiently waiting for him to take on another role like this so he can be all angsty, dark, and broody. Here’s hoping his wife died a long time ago sos not to get in the way of our romance, right?

And I’m officially an asshole.

I’m also watching When a Snail Falls in Love and I am on the fence about it. Granted, I have watched all the available episodes so far, but I don’t have a NEED to watch them as soon as they are release, like I did with Love Me if You Dare. I remember watching them raw the first time because I simply couldn’t wait for the subs. Here… shrugs. I’ not sold on the OTP. I can’t feel their chemistry at all, when it popped off the page in the book. Maybe because we aren’t privy to their inner thoughts, I can’t seem to understand what they are feeling most of the time. In fact, I’m more on board with the second couple, even though their characters are very different than their book counterparts.

Do you feel any better about it now? I’m three episodes away from the end and still am like…eh.
