Throwback (Musical) Thursday – So Excited…Sorry

 

While preparing for this week’s Throwback (Musical) Thursday, I had a very difficult decision to make. For those of you that don’t know, this is BTS week for the bulk of the Kpop Nerd Herd. And Alix and I may have gotten tickets to both nights, so this is also BTS DAY 1 of 2 (holy cow…so excited). After this full disclosure, I have been faced with the risk that sharing my overwhelming sense of pleasure and anticipation with the Kchat universe may possibly result in rubbing salt into the wounds of those that weren’t able to get tickets for one reason or another. That’s a big risk.

But then I remembered that while I am good person, I am not always a nice person. So BTS it is…

Many of the readers of this blog are intensely familiar with the BTS back catalog. When picking a song to share, I didn’t want to default to something we’ve all watched over and over until 2:00am in our basements, tipsy and full of popcorn, with our KBestie (I assume this isn’t just me). As a result, I’m going to go a slightly different route this time around. I am going to share some covers…BTS members covering songs.

They don’t tend to cover music built for pumping you up, so if you need a little something extra, I recommend putting on some of their anthems after you enjoy the videos below. Because I’m so worked up over how much fun I’m going to have over the next four days (two concerts and four days of my lovely ladies in the City) I’ve spent the hours leading up to this post either running, jumping up and down obnoxiously to work out my excess energy, or breathing into a paper bag instead of coming up with clever and witty ways to tell you about the songs I picked.  It’s best to not rely on me to entertain you today. Let’s just ignore me and listen to what I’ve linked to below: Taehyung singing in a deep voice, Hoseok rapping like a villain, Jungkook and Namjoon singing an actual duet, and Jin working his way through a solo cover in his perfect little nasally voice. All of this makes me so happy. Like really, really happy.

I apologize in advance to anyone meeting me for the first time between the dates of March 23-26, I won’t be cool. To be honest, I’m never really very cool, but at least I’m usually somewhat articulate and interesting. This weekend…I promise nothing. I would love to meet anyone that’s interested…I’ll be the one at the show with Alix…you’ll know us because obviously we will be the only ones truly excited to be there…or because we look like us…me with the middle-aged purple hair and orange track suit jacket (Thursday) and her with her lovely curls a beautiful smile. Come say hi…or tell me in the comments that you’ll be there and I will wave. I will likely wave at everyone regardless (because I am overly friendly sometimes), but it will feel like a genuine connection if you are expecting it.

V was my first BTS love and Hoseok is my #1, so this first cover makes me want to hug everyone….and I am not a person-toucher. The photo at the top of this post is literally what magic and candy are made of and this song is it’s offspring.

Namjoon has started singing more and more on recent releases, or at least sing/rapping. This cover is ridiculously enjoyable as we get to hear such a different side of him. Kookie, of course, is marvelous.

Jin released this little diddy as his birthday gift to A.R.M.Y.. It’s lovely and soulful. I want to snuggle him (don’t tell Alix, she gets all possessive of Jin and Namjoon).

I am so sorry to the folks that aren’t able to make it to the shows. I will do my very best to enjoy them in your honor. I will work extra hard to make sure that every moment is perfect, and I will try to not even blink. I will miss nothing.
