There are so many rookie groups coming out these days that it can be a little overwhelming. Even I am overwhelmed, and I thought I had a near endless ability to love litters of Kpop puppies. Since I can’t resist checking them out, and quite a few are promising and deserve your notice, I asked Stephanie if I could run the occasional NuGu post, and because she is a wonderful and generous leader, she said yes.
Corsets, huh? Interesting styling choice.
A.C.E is under Beat Interactive and is composed of five members: Jun, Donghun, Wow, Jason and Chan. They debuted at the end of May of this year and did a stage that had everyone a little scandalized. Their stylist made another interesting choice. They were wearing shorts. Shorts tight enough and short enough that many people thought they were in their underwear. Wanna see? I know you do… I’m giving you this dance relay instead of the live stage because, well, just trust me.
I wish my legs were that nice.
I have a hard time looking away (Why would I want to?!). It took me the third time through before I noticed they were wearing chokers, which are my very favorite-ist Kpop fashion accessory. Admittedly, I was also distracted by the creatively placed athletic tape that makes me think of old men’s sock garters, but hey… I’m never going to forget this, am I?
The music video is really solid and well produced. It hits all my check boxes. Can I get a good look at the artists faces? Is the dancing interesting, well done, and can I see it for more than a millisecond? No confusing random storylines? No gratuitous guns or violence? Great clothes and hair? Here, I understand the stylists choices.
To top it all off its a great song. I don’t know about you, but this is the type of song where I’m driving along, look down at my speedometer and say “Oh shit!” and slow down. It’s got an exciting, driving, beat, and its not tropical house! (I love tropical house, I will never be tired of it, but its nice to get something different) The vocals really caught my attention too – I love their harmonies. And I really love its called Cactus. Basically, its about a guy who is kind of prickly on the outside but soft on the inside, and that he’s made to survive in a harsh lonely environment, but he can be made to bloom by someone special. Romantic!
I love this cover and they look like boys I would date. I’d like the whole set, please!
They can sing! This doesn’t sound messed with to me. Does it to you? They all sound so good. Their company must think so too because on their YouTube page they highlighted each of the members pre-debut by having them do Christmas song covers. The videos are fun and again, (mostly) impressive with the vocal skill.
To top it off, they’re pretty amazing dancers. For less thigh and more normal flower boys dancing to Cactus, check out their gorgeous 1MILLION Dance Studio video. For something edgier, I recommend watching one of their very first pre-debut videos below. Wow.
Nothing says “Come check out our new group!” like bloody flesh-eating zombies.
Please joining me in cheering A.C.E on! They’ve had a great start and I look forward to seeing what else they put out. Also, I am taking suggestions for what to call this series. Comment below and inspire me!
