You want to know who represents the physical embodiment of the ENTIRE package? Like all of the singing, dancing, rapping(ish), hardworking, caring, beautiful, naughty, etc. parts of the package? The one that everyone loves and nobody can deny…even when he’s not your bias (though a little part of you wonders if you were picked by the wrong idol in the group)? To be honest, there are tons of these kinds of entertainers out there, but the one I’m talking about right now is one that I get to see in person next weekend. And no, he’s not my bias (I’m kinda still working on that) in the group, but damn, he really does deserve all of the attention he gets.
Taeyong is the main rapper, lead dancer, a vocalist, and the visual of NCT U/127. Oh, yeah, he’s also the leader. That’s a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of one 20-year-old kid. One that also came into debut with a bit of a scandal shadowing his past (because middle school boys aren’t smart) and has to be repentant all of the time to prove he’s worthy of all of the adoration. I haven’t yet seen NCT live (I am sooooooo looking forward to it as I have been a fan since pre-debut) but I have heard through Kgrapevine that he, in particular, is magnificent live…all charismatic and effortless in a way that only hard work and effort can achieve. I am very much ready to witness this in person…even from my crappy seats in P120 (an exaggeration, but not by much).
Taeyong put out a song on SM Station this week called Cure, as many of the other NCT members have done in the past, and I love it. The track is written and produced by Yoo Young Jin who has done a ton with H.O.T., Shinwa, Super Junior, and TVXQ. It’s kind of a pop rock track. The MV has Taeyong contemplatively posing and looking fantastic interspersed with snippets of video recorded during his pre-debut days at SM. The song is radio friendly, it’s perfectly accessible to folks who like music across a myriad of genres, and it’s catchy. Frankly, it highlights Taeyong’s talents as a vocalist perfectly while still paying tribute to the fact that he is or at least wants to be a rapper (As an avid rap listener, I can’t say that he’s blown me out of the water in this particular area, but he’s super earnest in his attempts). This song has earned its place on an oft listened to playlist and I never skip it when it comes on…that’s saying quite a bit given how quickly I can steamroll over a tune.
