Throwback (Musical) Thursday – Reinventing Oneself

Music

Have you ever just been plugging along, minding your own business doing a decent job of living when WHAM, your whole world seems to be playing out at the whim of the fates and you don’t have any control over what’s going on? Sound familiar? I’m sure it does, at least to some degree, to all of us. Of course, it’s not really true, we always have at least a modicum of control over our own existence, but man-oh-man, it doesn’t always feel that way. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have that all play out in the public’s eye. Under Contract. As an artist with few other life skills. Who just wants to perform a ‘broader spectrum of music styles.’

Though I’ve caught the random rumor and headline, I have never really fully understood the dramatics associated with Topp Dogg and their complex web of member dynamics and subunits. I’ve honestly never taken the time to familiarize myself with the members or even their songs beyond the couple that have sought me out. But I must admit, I have really enjoyed the songs released by former member Seogoong, now on Dream Tea Entertainment as the solo artist I’M.

I’M was a vocalist for Topp Dogg, some claiming that he was one of the best vocalists, who seemed to have disappeared for months in the 2015-2016 timeframe. After an extended absence, the announcement was made that he would no longer be a part of Topp Dogg, rather, he would be exploring more ‘musical options’ in the subunit Under Dogg. If that doesn’t sound like a demotion, I don’t know what does. With all of the mergers and acquisitions that occurred around Stardom Entertainment and Hunus Entertainment, it came out that Seogoong had signed with Dream Tea and would be reinventing himself with a new ‘mature’ sound. The two songs that I’ve tracked down are beautiful. He really is a talented singer. But, sadly, I haven’t seen anything come out since March of 2017…and with only two singles, there isn’t much to cling to as a fangirl. Not a lot of content to stalk.

Here’s to hoping more comes out in the coming months…everyone else is putting stuff out, why not I’M.

I’M, Try
