Musical Monday – I Know, I Know

Posted by SaraG on October 9, 2017

I am aware that I, in the not too distant past, said quite clearly that though I recognized their talent, I wasn’t all that into Seventeen. Watching them at Kcon NY in 2016 was enjoyable, but didn’t really do anything for me. I took months to finally learn all of the members’ names, and I mostly did it to please KpopontheDL because she’s such a huge fan of them and I am such a huge fan of her. Their last mini album did something to me, though. It changed me. I’ve grown. Seeing them at Kcon LA this summer was honestly one of the highlights of 2017 for me. Hoshi not being stage was devastating…and that feeling of loss really tells me how much they’ve wormed their cute butts into my heart.

I am also more than aware that I did the Seventeen Leaders song for last week’s Musical Monday and here I am again, a mere seven days later, blathering on about the Performance Unit’s contribution to their soon to be released mini-album. It took a lot of effort not to do the Hip Hop Unit’s release as a bonus post on a random day in between. They are just…I don’t even know if I have the words…fantastic? Perfect? Delightful? It all sounds so patronizing. I think if I really was still that fanatical, hormonally driven fifteen-year-old girl I used to be, I’d be much better equipped to articulate exactly what it is they are making me feel. For now, I’ll just say that I really, really like them. Because I’m a grown up and I don’t know most of you well enough to really share that deeply.

This song is a good listen. Excellent. I can’t wait to have it on my phone so I can absorb it while I’m at work, in my car, walking the dog, or just breathing. But watching the video takes it to a whole different level, this is the Performance Unit after all. They are dancers, it’s what they do. The choreography is complex, interesting, and just the right amount of sexy. I love the highly stylized yet identical outfits, the intense stage makeup, and the perfectly coiffed hair as it works in stark contrast with the outdoor setting surrounded by normal looking people in normal looking clothes. It’s striking.

I am seriously ready for this mini album. May they accidentally send it to me in advance so I don’t have to wait until November. I promise I’d tell you all about it.
