Show Notes
This episode we’re talking about a pretty serious topic — what butt-holes commenters on the internet can be. In particular, we were asked to chime in on an issue going down on Tumblr & Twitter regarding racism in the Kpop fandom… and again… the general butt-holery of the internet. We asked friend and Kpop fan Alexis to join us. We also talk BTS and the AMAs and discuss the reasoning behind those shortened drama episodes.

Stephanie would like to probably apologize to the following:
- Anyone offended by what she may have said.
- Anyone who thought she didn’t actually know what she was talking about.
- Cheezits. She’s really sorry you can’t get along anymore.
- Alexis, sorry she wouldn’t let you eat chips while recording.

As someone who listens to the podcast while doing some tedious life tasks (guess how many times I listened while cleaning my house on a Saturday?), I’m not offended by an episode that looks at some similarly unfortunate but necessary truths about fandoms. If someone throws eggs, they shouldn’t get mad when they get yelled at to clean up afterward. Also, in regards to which aspects of BTS their management will introduce to US audiences, I thing Big Hit has a pretty keen eye on how to repackage BTS to match their environment. I’m suspect it will be more boy band and not social justice-y – although a dash of Love Yourself won’t hurt them.
Part of the confusion with the changing episode format is there isn’t consistent labeling across platforms. SBS is airing “While You Were Sleeping” as a 32 (short) episode drama. That’s how it’s listed on mydramalist, asianwiki, etc. But Viki is airing it as 16 (long episodes.)
I decided to pick up the (ridiculous) weekend drama “Borg Mom” because mydramalist had it at 12 episodes. I was ready for it to wrap up after 12 short episodes, but the episodes on Kissasian (the only place that has it) kept going on to 13 and 14 and 15… So apparently MBC is airing it as 24 short episodes.
I was so surprised when the title “finale episode” popped up on episode 16 of While you were sleeping (on Viki). I expecting 32 episodes. I had braced myself for a long watch…hehe
I’m curious how your subtitles are in the shows that you watch. How are you watching your kdramas? Dramafever? Viki? What other options do we have in the States? From what I understand, Dramafever is translated like a real business by hired employees while Viki is more of a volunteer community so you get a different flavor in each of their translations.
“Be the Light in the darkness!!” – love it Cherry!
How can anyone be mean to Heechul? My goodness people need to stop!
The worst hair award in the Block B video goes to Park Kyung. I do not know what the stylist where thinking !
P.O. can pull off any hair style. He is just that adorable. I get B bomb and one of the other fellows mixed up and Mr SpiceAngel has to remind me of their names.
Block B is one of our favorite groups. I look forward to them coming to the US. Zico is so talented. When Mino was on SMTM, every song Zico wrote for him was great!
Thanks for addressing tough issues. It’s something I really love about this podcast. And YAY for meeting Alexis.. She seems like an awesome lady! I am now her Instagram follower.
