It’s that time of year again! And by year, I realize I have enough new additions to in my LGBT collection to warrent a new post (for your reference it needs to be over 10 new additions). I’m always surprised as to where the new additions will take me. Just when I think I’ve got all the older ones? Something will shake loose a slew of them. That’s where we’re at with this addition to the list, a whole bunch of mainly movies from various years back. (Don’t worry, we also have some newer ones for you too, including a fun looking one from Japan!)
Ossan’s Love 2016 Japan
Soichi Haruta (Kei Tanaka) is 33-years-old, single and works in the product development division at a company. He wants to get married, but he isn’t popular with women. One day, he finds his senior at work, Musashi Kurosawa (Kotaro Yoshida) saving a lot of his pictures on Musashi Kurosawa’s cellphone. Soichi Haruta is scared. One day, Musashi Kurosawa confesses to him that he likes him.

Haruta Soichi is a 33-years-old single man who isn’t popular with women. He works at a real estate office and lives with his parents. He then decides to live with Maki Ryota, a coworker who is good at housekeeping. One day, Ryota and Kurosawa Musashi, a gay coworker, both confess their feelings to Soichi.
Rainbow Eyes (2007) Korean
Kyeong-Yoon (Kim Kang-Woo) and Eun-Ju (Kim Gyu-Ri) investigate a grisly murder of an affluent entrepreneur. The victim was slashed over 20 times and there’s blood everywhere in his apartment. The killer was careful not to leave behind incriminating evidence, but nevertheless, a strand of the killer’s hair is found. The police are then able to determine that the killer is male and has AB blood type.
Shortly after the first grisly murder, a second murder occurs. The victims seem to be unrelated but the modus operandi seems the same. When the police delve deeper into the victims’ background they discover that the two victims were stationed at the same military base many years ago. A month prior to their discharge they were transferred to another base along with a third man by the name Jay Bae. The police now believe Jay Bae could be the next victim or the killer. Their investigation has only just begun.
Boyfriend 2016 Thailand
Toey moves to Bangkok to start a new life after being rejected by the girl he loves. At his new school he meets Aek and they soon become friends. Aek continuously asks Toey if he can spend the night, stating that he is fighting with his parents. People start thinking that they are a couple. Their friend, Mike, suggests that they fake being gay on the internet for money. As they start to gain popularity online, Toey starts to doubt if he really wants to do this.

A middle-class couple is set in their monotonous life until one day the husband has a homosexual affair with a young male prostitute. Suspicious of her husband’s infidelity, the wife seeks the truth and eventually ends up in bed with the young man after learning he was her husband’s lover.
Amphetamine (2010) Hong Kong
Kafka is straight while Daniel happens to be gay. The young men fall in love, believing that their love can bridge anything, despite their difference in sexuality and Kafka’s drug-taking. A short series focusing on friendships and love. Even though this is sponsored by a Thai food company (expect product placements) each episode is a cute and happy slice-of-life story.

Originally made as a college graduate film, Down the River is a daring exploration of friendship and intimacy seldom seen from Thailand. Shot it in the countryside, forests and temples of an ancient land the film is beautiful and sweeping more tone poem than film. We can only hope that more will come from a filmmaker of this talent.
