Khottie of the Week: 5urprise

Khottie of the Week/ Music

This post is a great example of where you have a vision and as you work to execute that vision, you get distracted, fall down a YouTube rabbit hole, and suddenly your post has taken on a new vision. I was planning to feature Seo Kang Joon (and don’t worry he will get a future solo post) but then I read that he’d been in a boy group, looked them up on YouTube and here we are.

I’m hoping SaraG will feature them for Throwback Thursday so I won’t say much here other than they are a group of actors turned idols (different than the usual) who debuted in 2013 via a web drama called After School: Lucky or Not and then released a small number of songs with delightful music videos. Their last release was in 2016 so if you want to see these boys you’ll have to turn to dramas.

Yoo Il is the oldest at 28 and according to Wikipedia is the leader of the group (I found other sites that say Seo Kang Joon is…5urprise drama…).

He looks familiar to me but has had a number of small parts over the years.

Gong Myung is 24 and I first saw him on Law of the Jungle with Jin from BTS.

He’s the older brother of Doyoung from NCT.

And probably the most well known after Seo Kang Joon.

Kang Tae Oh, also 24, is another who looks familiar to me but has mostly had small parts.

He likes working out, listening to music and is one of the shorter members.

Seo Kang Joon, 24, is the most well-known member with an extensive list of dramas under his belt.

As I discovered from watching all of the 5urprise music videos he’s actually a pretty good singer.

Last but not least is Lee Tae Hwan, age 23, who I was very 5urprised to discover I already knew and liked.

I just watched him in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim and can’t wait to see what he does next.

My guess is the likelihood of a 5urprise comeback is slim to none…

So we’ll just have to show our support through lots and lots of drama watching.

    Excellent choice Alix!

I am partial to Gong Myung. I think I have seen him in several dramas.

    Drinking Solo
    Revolutionary Love
    Bride of Habaek

He still has a lot of room to grow as an actor, but to me there is something that draws me in. Maybe his cute pouty lips?
I am also partial to Do Young. Maybe it is a family thing…

I first saw Kang Joon on Roommate. He was so wide eyed and innocent. Very adorable. I remember the episode where Lee Dong Wook took KJ to get his first cell phone. To be honest, I am not sure if I have seen him in a drama yet? Recommendations???

I have seen Lee Tae Hwan in a few things and he is very Tall, Dark and Handsone.

I actually have not seen a lot of Kang Joon’s dramas but just recently watched Are You Human Too and I would recommend it. Has an ending that I did not expect from a kdrama and he plays both the human and the robot…double the screen time :).

    “5urprise drama” HAHAHAHHAHA

Whenever I hear 5urprise, all I can think of was Roommate when they introduced Seo Kang Joon and they showed how poor they were.

It’s a good looking group of members!

They really struggled a lot and now I’m glad that each of them finally got somewhere in their carrers. Their visuals caught my attention at first since they have very unique charms.

Kang Jun has very clear eyes and full lips that made me want to look at him all the time for a while, Taehwan is tall and his natural tanned skin makes him stand out beautifully. He also reminds me of a cute and happy puppy even though his eyes are like a cat’s. Gongmyung is incredibly cute, his slanted bunny-like eyes and sweet kinda breathy voice are a combo. Yoo Il has a good voice and he has that classy chaebol vibe to him but also has a gentle look that carries some warmth. He would look great in a king-sized bed wearing a black half-opened robe. As for Kang Tae-Oh I have yet to figure him out completely, but he has that second lead atmosfere to him even as a lead, which is not bad at all considering that it feels like he will always be by your side when you’re in need of a few drinks and a friend to hug.

They all look like typical bishonen characters and it’s great to see them together. At first I thought “why is Fantagio pulling a concept like that, just let them be actors”, but they really complemented each other and it was actually very clever to put them together even though Kangjun was able to achieve some sucess before everyone else.
