Has anyone noticed the almost complete halt in new releases in the Kpop world over the last couple of weeks? It makes sense, it was a holiday. Chuseok is a three-day autumn harvest festival held based on the lunar calendar each year in Korea. If you follow Kpop in any way on social media or through YouTube, you’ll have taken notice of Hanboks in every color, snacks and treats, family photos, and pics of celebrities doing volunteer work. It’s the time of year when everyone gets a few days off or focus on doing Vlives focused specifically on more traditional activities.
Well, everyone except for the freshly debuted and those on the hustle to make it in music without the backing of a huge label. So while it’s slow for mainstream Kpop, it’s actually a great opportunity for lesser-known groups and indie bands to get some attention. My YouTube subscriptions have been crazy full of all sorts of gems by groups like Wetter and Retro Funkee and singers like EZ Kim and Lee Yerin. I’ve been super busy personally and professionally, but I’ve made sure to listen to as much as possible in the last couple of weeks because I tend to lose sight of these guys the rest of the year and that is in no way fair to their talent and contribution to the music world.
In honor of that sentiment, I’d like to use today’s post to share something new and fun from a brand new artist called Chimmi…I literally know nothing about her? This group? I mean, my cursory research turned up almost nothing. But I subscribe to their YouTube channel along with 346 of my closes friends and caught the song the day it was released…with love. I feel lucky and honored to have done so.
I wish that I had all sort of insider information I could share on the group, but I don’t. Pure and simple. I have nothing to say other than let’s all listen to them and boost their numbers so we get to learn more. Please.
