Throwback (Musical) Thursday – This Was the Song

Posted by SaraG on October 25, 2018

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I’ve been giving some more established groups a second chance. Not that I dismissed them all out of hand, but just that there are so many and it’s hard to decide where to invest the extra effort to really get to know the members and the deep cuts. For the most part, I’m pretty good at deciding for myself who I want to get to know, thank you very much. But I’m not so selfish as to not put in the effort when someone I love is completely smitten. I have a burning desire to be a better recipient of their obsessions and to fully understand what it is they’re talking about.

I want to know who’s in the pictures.

I want to understand the fics when I read them.

Astro is one of those groups. They, from debut, weren’t really my thing. Much like the actual members, as I learned this week, I prefer a more mature concept and they came out of the gate pretty darned cute. Though I’ve been schooled this week that this wasn’t how they were anticipating debuting nor does it describe the sum total of their stuff. You see, there is a whole contingent of the Nerd Herd that identify as AROHA and I have finally been persuaded to really take a deep dive into learning them and falling in love. Of course, the fall in love part is inevitable. Especially with songs like Crazy, Sexy, Cool in their catalog. This was the song, released on November 1, 2017, that made me say yes to that first fic and to start to slowly learn the members on my own. I mean suuuuuuper slowly. Slow enough that it wasn’t good enough.

I’m currently in two separate idol learning schools being taught by two different members of the Herd and it’s really helping. I think I’ve kind of got them. I mean, in context and if they aren’t moving around too quickly. But honestly, after just a few pieces of variety and taking a second look at some MVs, it’s totally worth it. They are an amazing bunch. I haven’t settled on a bias, and likely won’t because I rarely settle all of my love on one member of any group, but I’m feeling more and more comfortable with them like we’re becoming friends. Any minute now they are going to invite me to sit with them at lunch and I’ll totally do it.
