A Few Of My Favorite Things: Music

Posted by Stephanie on October 29, 2018

Little known fact, it’s my birthday this week! Smaller known fact? IT’S A BIG ONE. Like big-big. Not going to like, guys, this one hurts. Luckily, as we lead up to these last few days of my thirties, I’ve decided to hold to me all of the things that make me happy, that burns that little spark inside, that reminds me that I can still kick ass when I need to, that I, no matter what age, will always be the coolest version of me. So, this Monday, I’ve decided to look at those Musical bits that just hits all those buttons for me. These aren’t all new songs, but it’s a theme post and, as with all theme posts, rules are tossed to the side. At least for this week. Because it’s my birthday.

Song Minho, Okey Dokie Recently, I’ve come to realize I really dig Song Minho the rapper from Winner. If there was anyone who could rip the crown from GD, I  think it would be him. I listen to this song on repeat pretty often while I’m working. I always wish someone would walk by and ask me who I’m jamming out to so I could make them listen to it too….

GD & T.O.P Zutter. The pairing of GD and T.O.P just never lets you down. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot to choose from this pairing, but what we have is solid quality. If I were earlier in my kpop fandom, I’d choose some either Knock Out or High High but after this last release, Zutter is it for me. While I like the live performances, this video is such a mix of gross, of humor, and of serious cool that I can just rewatch over and over again.

RM, Do You. GAH. This song is just so sexy. Like For Real(z). There were a lot of options from the Artist Former Known as Rap Monster, and Trouble, his predebut with Jin was a hard one to say no to, but this one just does something to the lady bits so….it’s in.

NCT, Neo Got My Back. Not to be all creepy and keep going on about lady bits but looking at my thumbed up list on Google Play? It’s filled with a lot of songs that make me go….hello there. For some reason, this is a new addition to the group, which is a surprise as I love NCT, but this one apparently needed time to marinate in my head before I realized how good it was. SWOOON

Seventeen Leaders, Change Up. I loved Woozi before this, but came out of this luuuuuuuuurving Woozi. Come on, how can you not? He’s even made me appreciate a nice falsetto. This video is a lot of fun, the song, while repetitive, just sticks with me and tickles that part of my brain that says “Let’s go, move.” LizC was nice enough after mentioning I had the song in my head, played the song for me to listen to at least three times. Now excuse me as I stare at Woozi in shorts. It has to be done. He’s expecting me. It’s kind of our thing.

BeWhy, Simon D,  XamBaqJa. Here’s a new one to the list and proof positive….Stephanie has a thing for rappers. She’s not sure if it’s something she should get checked out or not, but for now, we’re just going with it. Was seriously excited when I came across this song and shared it with SaraG, hoping I was going to be the one to suggest something to Sara, but…nope. Laugh. Oh well. Maybe next time. But she’ll have probably heard that song too, which is good as that’s kind of her job here at Kchat.

BTS Mike Drop (Steve Aoki Remix), LAUGH. As I’m getting ready to add this one onto this list I, not kidding, watched the entire video again. There’s a lot of BTS to choose from, and I really want to keep it to one artist per list, so I’m going with this purely on the power of Hoseok. He did such a good job on this and it always reminds me he signed on as a dancer to the group who they then realized could rap. He’s come so far. They all have.

Monsta X, Trespass. Why Trespass out of all of their other songs? Three words: EXCUSE. MY. CARISMA. When Joo-honey asks us to excuse how awesomely alluring he is? Sorry, sir, we can’t do it. TAKE THE BLAME FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO US!

Villian, Mannito. Sigh. Another rapper. Another rapper from a small label? The blame for this can only be placed in one are. SARAG. Hrm. This is another song to strut too all, heck yeah I’m a villain so you’d better get out of my mother flipping way before I extract my revenge at some future date because I may be a villain but I’m also passive aggressive AF.

So, here is a small section of the playlist from my week. My week of reminding myself of all the awesome. Music? Music is awesome. Korean rappers? Korean rappers are awesome. Tiny idols in shorts are awesome. That’s good for now.

happy birthday! May your biases post many new pictures, may your OTPs have their happily ever afters, and may the second leads get what they deserve.

I loved turning 40 and look forward to turning 50 soon too. Yes, this is ahjumma territory, and you know what, we embrace it with confidence. We know what we like, we know what we’re worth, and everyone can just go stuff it if they have a problem.

Now, if I could make a request for NCT school, like you did for Monsta X and Pentagon? thanks!

Thanks for all of the wishes, I hope they come true too! And the heads up on the potential awesomeness of 40. I can’t see it yet but hopefully it will kick in soon!

I’ll ask the teacher about NCT!

Hmm. much as I enjoy Seventeen, this Woozi visual is a bit disturbing. He can completely fit in the back seat of that car . . . this is wrong.

All the better for him to fit in my pocket!
