Th_Hottie of the Week: Love by Chance

Khottie of the Week

I debated long and hard about writing this post, as I would be outing myself, so to speak, as someone who watches and enjoys BL. But this past week was Valentine’s Day, and as a day that exists solely to celebrate love, I wanted to do this post in recognition that all of us, where ever we live, should be able to love whomever we want and in whatever form love takes.

Love by Chance is a Thai BL (Boys Love) series that aired this past fall. Stephanie and I had watched the first couple of episodes together back in October and then I’d forgotten about it until I was away over Christmas and needed something easy and enjoyable to watch. Love by Chance is in no way perfect, as with many BL shows, there are scenes with very questionable consent and odd storylines that make no real sense until the last episode but there’s just something about this story and cast, that at least for me, makes it hard to not love this show.

There are four storylines or couples, I am going to mostly feature the main two couples but wanted to introduce you to the other two as they are also cute and worth knowing (or at least following on Instagram). Another thing you might learn if you start watching a lot of Thai BL is that they all have very long Thai names and usually go by English nicknames, I’ll include both here.

When the show first aired there was supposed to be a Season 2 but as of right now the director has been pretty clear he is not doing it for a number of reasons. All the couples’ stories end in a place that leaves room for Season 2, especially these secondary couples.

The KengklaTechno couple…Napat Ne Ranong (Gun) and Siwat Jumlongkul (Mark)…cute with a questionable storyline that takes a while to build.

The TumTar couple…Kirati Puangmalee (Title) and Katsamonnat Namwirote (Earth)…another odd storyline that took me almost the whole show to figure out.

And our main couple…AePete.

Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana (Saint) plays Pete, an openly gay character. I love the scene where he comes out to his mother.

Tanapon Sukhumpantanasan (Perth) plays Ae…we never learn his orientation…he loves Pete for being Pete.

Throughout the show, they are incredibly sweet together.

They have bumps in their relationship and have pretty impressive communication skills to work past them.

Saving the best for last is my favorite couple…TinCan.

Phiravich Attachitsataporn (Mean) plays Tin…not always the nicest guy who is struggling with a difficult past.

Rathavit Kijworaluk (Plan) plays Can…lots of character growth and has the cutest pout.

Their characters struggle throughout the show…

But the glimpses of what the relationship could be, keep you cheering them on.

And because of them, I keep hoping that miracles really do happen and we get a Season 2 with the same cast…#TinCan4ever

You can find the show on YouTube and keep all your fingers crossed for a Season 2!
