A man with tattoos, piercings, a love of bacon, AND animals? Yes, please.
Music really and truly plays a major role in how I pick and choose who to spend time with, but I also have a weak spot for all of the things listed above. Choosing new artists is a bit of a chicken and egg situation – do I find someone because of their music or find the music because the artists draw me in. In the case of BIGONE, it was the man himself. On one of my many stolen moments scrolling through Instagram I came across his profile and noted how many of his followers I loved, who he ran around with, and who’s pics he was liking. There was some serious overlap. I knew immediately that this could be a match made in hip hop heaven.
BIGONE is a rapper, dancer, and composer on VMC. He choreographed much of 24K’s music videos and as he is in no way lacking in confidence, has said that he is scared of how good of a dancer he is. He was a contestant on Show Me the Money 6 and debuted as a solo artist in November 2017. His bravado is nothing to shake a stick at, but he was clearly raised to do great things…His grandfather named him Kim Daeil for a reason – Dae means big, il means one. He to see him do great things. I don’t always love that deep-seated confidence, sometimes it’s a total turnoff, but for some reason, it doesn’t bother me in this case.
Over the last year or so I’ve been pawing my way through his albums and collabs, I’d have to say that his most recent is most in line with my tastes and his song with Penomecco is fabulous (but I’m biased towards loving almost anything Peno does). However, it’s worth taking a look at some of his older stuff, some of his foundational music. He clearly fancies himself as a true hip hop soul and though seeing some of his day-to-day on Insta kind of spoils that image a bit, it actually makes me enjoy him all the more.
