Gosh, I’ve been remiss in a big, bad way. I’ve mentioned Onewe on this site approximately 73 times and I’ve failed to actually write a post about them. Who does that??
Onewe is a five-member pop-rock band on RBW that debuted in May of 2019. But this tiny sentence tells you very little about who these gents are and their long history together. These five members actually first debuted together under the name M.A.S 0094 in 2015 and donated all of their profits to various charities, including those supporting comfort women. They made their official debut under the label Modern Music in August of that year and released two EPs on the label while also working as MAMAMOO’s session band for some live performances.
In 2017, Dongmyeong, the vocalist and keyboard player, represented RBW on Produce 101 Season 2, sparking rumors that the group had changed labels. They later confirmed the move and announced that they would continue promotions with the name Mas and the whole group went on to participate in The Unit. Dongmyeong made it all the way to finals on that show but was eliminated at number 16. Not a bad showing at all for someone almost completely untrained in dance.
In December of that same year, the band joined the reality program RBW Trainee Life – We Will Debut alongside the RBW Boyz – a pre-debut idol group now lovingly known as Oneus. I would like to point out here – again for the site – that the close relationship between Onewe and Oneus isn’t just born of being on the same label and of working together. Dongmyeong of Onewe and Xion of Oneus are twin brothers. I’m sure this fact plays at least a tiny role in the groups being signed to the same management company. They are quite factually sibling groups.
It was announced in June of 2018 that Mas would re-debut under the name Onewe in 2019 and they put out an EP called “1/4” in May.

They quickly followed up this release with a second EP called “2/4” with the title track Regulus. But I have to say, one of the things that I love them ever so much for is their cover songs. In September of this year they put out their own special version of Latata originally by (G)I-DLE and it’s going to significantly change how you hear this song. I could watch Cya play the bass all day. Don’t worry, I’ll do a Kpop school for them soon enough 😉
