If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been these last couple of weeks, let me tell you, nothing quite says the holidays like tucking in with friends in the wilds of Vermont. Sure their #1 desire is to turn me into a rabid Stray Kids fan, but as I was the one who turned their kid into a Kpop fan of the first order, it seems fair. During my time here, One thing we have accomplished was to watch Kingdom together — because every Christmas holiday needs some zombies, amIright?
That being said, it was extra exciting and meaningful that the teasers for Kingdom 2 finally came out while I was here!
Finally. (Season 1 spoilers ahead)
Rather than put out one overarching, plot filled teaser, which is a bummer, they went with small snippits for each of the characters:
We have the crown prince who, I can tell you from my recent rewatch, we left fighting off in his section of Korea, sun rising, thinking they had made it through that night’s zombie attack, only to realize rules of the zombie hadn’t been fully understood and the attack of all attacks was coming. (Seriously though, that last shot of all the zombies running towards them, GAH!)
As this teaser seems to take place at the palace, we can assume he made it through that day, made it out of the quarantine and over to past day Seoul. Something tells me getting there is his ultimate goal, so it’s probably going to take a few episodes to get there.
In this next teaser we have the physician who we last left at the frozen valley with the smitten government guy. They’d found the resurrection flower, and then, it looked like the zombies found them with her whispered “It’s the temperature.”
So, she made it out of that pinch, but from the teaser, appears to have gotten herself into another one. I wonder if the original group (her, the prince, the prince’s sidekick, and the gunman) meetup again after both sides are attached by zombies in different areas or if this is where the story splits them up, off on their own paths, her to find the cure and the prince to win back the throne? I was kind of shipping her and the mysterious gunman, but really, the gunman is better served with the king…he needs someone trustworthy on his side.
Side note: I will say on this rewatch, I may have noticed Bae Doona might not fit in acting-wise with the rest of the cast. I think it might be her accent? This time around, I found her a bit more jarring than I did originally.
Here we’ve got the queen, and apparently a shaman. The queen revealed herself to not be preggers in the last season. I think we all saw that coming, with her harvesting pregnant ladies, looking for the son she so desperately needs. The question on everyones mind, and by everyone, I mean the people of the McFeeley household, was whether she was ever actually pregnant at all or if she lost the baby in that one scene with the king and the blood. My guess? She’d been without baby way before then.
This teaser shows next to nothing, except, I’m guessing she’s still working towards that heir before her dad realizes she’s been faking it all this time. There were moments where she seemed to be trying to act responsibly, or at least voice her opinions against her father, I’m hoping this will grow within the next season.
Zombies. Zombies are coming for the Kingdom, as they should.
I’m happy to say the second watching hasn’t ruined Kingdom for me, with the exception of the physician (which still wasn’t even that bad), the show completely holds up and I can’t wait to see season 2!
