I’d heard a few mumbles about this new show a while back, but, as I’m not the hugest fan of Hwang Jung Eum’s acting style, I kind of brushed past it. Meh, not for me, I thought. Looking after doing some research and watching a teaser? I think I might have been too hasty!
The drama, set to air, according to the above open sign, on 5/20 is based on a popular webtoon. From what I understand, the mystical pop-up tent is run by a prickly woman who, due to bad choices in her previous life, is stuck running this tent until she helps 100k people. That’s a lot of people. (It also reminds me of Hotel De Luna, wasn’t that plot a little similar but in hotel form?) She has 10 people left to help until she is free. She helps people who visit her tent by going into their dreams and fixing something in their life. In order to accomplish this she apparently needs a helper in the form of a part-timer played by Yook Sungjae.
Doesn’t that sound cute? Hmm… not sold yet? Guess you need to see the teaser that sold me!
See? It does look cute! Drunken hijinks, mysteries, irritable main leads, winking cuties, and street food? I’m drooling already! While as I’ve said, I’ve often had issues with the lead actresse’s acting which leans pretty heavily on screeching and bug eyes, it looks like here her tone might be put to good use. Since I don’t know anything more about the story itself, I don’t know if there is going to be a romance, however, I’m hopefully leaning that there won’t be on in this show. I don’t think storywise it needs it, and with the casting? It doesn’t seem like a great pairing.
But I’ve been wrong before.
The producers have actually put a lot of work into this show as the source material is apparently very well-loved in Korea. This works out well for us as, not only will they be on their toes about production quality, but this thing is already completely filmed so it won’t be delayed by any pandemic sized interruption!
