Stay At Home Saturday: Travel

Believe it or not, its Saturday again! A Stay At Home Saturday. Again. And again. And again. Anyone else bored looking at the walls of your home? Anyone else get thoughts of anywhere else popping up in their head? I literally sent a message to LizC this week “Ohhhhh, remember Miniso?” (A store we like to visit when we go to La for concerts?) The lady group is passing around photos of places we want to go “When we get out of here?”. Do you have those thoughts? It’s currently the hot summertime, remember going to the ocean? Or a beach? Or a POOL? Eating things you didn’t make yourself? Or handed off to you via a contactless messenger service? (UGH, or handed to you through a drive-through window where you can see everyone is wearing the masks under their noses and you almost cry because you realize this bagel now has the ability to kill you?)

I miss it. Gah. I miss travel so much. International. Nationwide. Statewide. Alas, for the foreseeable future, we’re going to have to sit here in our homes remembering the times and hoping that they’ll come around again. One way that’s fun to temporarily placate (or poke at) the travel bug? Watching the travel variety shows! You know the ones, idols or actors going to some foreign local, we all pretend there is a hoard of people/cameras following them and watch them all be all fish out of water? Trying to get from place to place, eating local foods, going to local touristy spots? Yeah, doing all the things you wish you were doing right at this very second?

Well, luckily, there’s a lot of them! So many so, you can pick your desired locals, your desired stars, and find a show to fit your taste! The following is a list of some of the more popular or notable shows.

Paired together for an unforgettable trip across Asia, stars Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu become buddies as they connect with fans and local cultures.

Stephanie’s Note: This just popped up on Netflix. SaraG is watching and LOVING it. There was a moment when she was saying “I love Twogether!” and I responded “OMG! I Love 2Gether!” see the issue? Alix sat there and let us swoon over two different shows, waiting for us to realize the error.

Traveler (Various Seasons)

Season One

The program is about two travelers, who went to Cuba, that combines trips and documentaries whom take a backpacking trip and enjoy a variety of experiences in the local area. For two weeks (26 December 2018 – 10 January 2019), both travelers backpacked in Cuba to learn about Che Guevara’s freedom and revolution, Buena Vista Social Club’s brilliant melodies and enjoy the refreshing feeling of old cars (1950’s to 1970’s) and mojito.[4] This backpacking trip is without the interference of the production crews and both travelers have to make decisions of their choice together on finding private accommodations, known as casa, eating and transportation.

Season Two

New travelers Ahn Jae-hong, Kang Ha-neul and Ong Seong-wu visit Argentina. For two weeks (30 November – 12 December 2019), the trio became real travelers in the original landscape of Argentina and enjoyed the beauty of a dozen times more colorful than their changing attire. They will go to places like Iguazu Falls, Perito Moreno Glacier and fighting against the wind on the road across Patagonia.

Stephanie’s Note: I love Lee Ji Hoon! He’s one of the guys in season one! I remember watching one of the episodes and he’s darling!

Law of the Jungle (Various Seasons)

Law of the Jungle (Hangul: 정글의 법칙; RR: Jeonggeul-eui Beopchik) is a South Korean reality-documentary show that airs on SBS. Each episode features celebrities sent to survive in remote locations around the world. The show was first aired on October 21, 2011. The show’s 300th episode aired in 2018.

Stephanie’s Note: TONS of seasons on this, tons of episodes. I watched a bunch of stars eat an iguana. Watched Jin from BTS fishing with a BTS Bomb. And SaraG tells me a couple of the Nu’est members are in the seasons, so you better believe I’m going to hunt those down.

Stephanie’s Note: Awwww I remember watching parts of the Shinee episode! When Key went to England? Awww remember England?

TayNew Meal Date

Follow Tay Tawan and New Thitipoom as they visit the best places to eat at the end of every month.

Stephanie’s Note: Wonder who Tay and New are? Obviously, you’re not a fan of BL then! Alix and I watched many a TayNew Meal Date episode on a day of BL and Bubbles. All they do is go a place and Thailand and eat food. It’s amazing.

Laos: Youth Over Flowers team surprised three actors and they only find out that they gonna be on vacation in Laos.

Stephanie’s Note: I have the one with Baro downloaded and always meant to watch it! Now I want to soo bad! I hear they cheat the entire show and NEVER get caught until the end.

Carefree Travelers (Various Seasons)

This is a travel program whereby the cast travels around various countries in the form of package tours alongside participating travelers and invited guests, but without the usual managers, talent agents and various staff behind the scenes tagging along.  For Season 2, slightly different from Season 1, the cast, invited guests and participating travellers travel around various countries experiencing local cultures, based on the schedule tailored from the wish lists of the fixed cast and invited guests, and following local package tours.

Fluttering India

Five young men get on a plane to an unfamiliar country, cameras in tow. On the show, the five idol stars explore the country, trying to create a report for Korean broadcaster KBS’ 9 o’clock news.

Jung Hae In’s Travel Log

Actor Jung Hae In becomes the producer of a documentary. He is hosting his version of the documentary Backpack Travels and chooses his first destination New York, the city where every traveler dreams about. It is a documentary about walking as he travels around the city. He will be joined by his fellow actors Eun Jong Gun and Lim Hyun Soo, and they will show their unexpected chemistry. How will their walk-documentary turnout?

Stephanie’s Note: I love watching stars traveling to the US. When Nu’est went to New York? Swoooon.

BTS: Bon Voyage (Various Seasons)

Season 1: BTS traveling around North Europe for 10 days, celebrating their 3rd year!
Season 2: Follow BTS as they have a memorable 9-day journey in Hawaii!
Season 3: The seven members are making happy memories in Malta!

Stephanie’s Note: I thought they went to New Zealand for season three? RM stressed me OUT in season 1 with his losing his passport.

‘NU’EST Road’ is a reality show that features all five members go on a friendship journey to discover unknown travel destinations and create precious memories together.

Stephanie’s Note: Yep, I did it, I put this in. They go to Japan so it COUNTS. Watch the episode when they get scared at the amusement park!

So, are you thinking of travel? Where do you want to go? For real, I think I’m going to go and spend the rest of the day watching these shows. Highest on my list, Twogether, That Youth Over Flowers season with Baro, and Grandpa Over Flowers! Oh! And the JR season of Law of the Jungle! So many travel shows, so little time!
