The School Nurse Files: Potential For Awesome

The School Nurse FilesWe’ve been focused on some other…otherworldly dramas out there (zombies and gumhios alike) now that we’re hitting the spooky season, but this one, The School Nurse Files almost escaped me! Which would have been terrible as, after doing some research, I think I’m more excited for this show than the other two combined!

I’m a sucker for a unique premise and a school nurse who battles ghostly entities with a plastic lightsaber and the help of a cute but odd school teacher really makes you step back and go, “whoah, who thinks of these things and can we be friends?”. Apparently, the show is based on a popular book, which makes sense! I think the most unique premises do stem from books or graphic novels as they don’t necessarily have to be tied to realism like shows pitched and made directly for television need to be. Producers can take a chance, outlay the money if there is a proven audience for crazy.

Anyway, The School Nurse Files! Its a show for Netflix, which my gut instinct always says there is going to be a level of quality at the start. All of the Netflix shows I’ve seen, whether I’ve loved them or not, have started out at a level that starts above others. Probably from the cash and clout which is there from the start. It stars Jung Yu Mi, who I remember most from Train To Busan, and Nam Joo Hyuk of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo.The School Nurse Files poster

Here’s the actual synopsis:

An Eun Young is a new nurse teacher at school. She has a special ability to see jelly-like monsters that are made from residue of human desire and she can also eradicate these jellies. She uses a toy knife and a BB gun to take out the jellies. She senses that a mysterious event takes place at her school. Hong In Pyo is a Chinese language teacher at the same school. Hong In Pyo has a special energy. In order to protect the students, An Eun Young and Hong In Pyo work together to eradicate these jellies.

He helps give her some of his power by holding hands. Ummm… its not the typical forced co-habitation trope but, its pretty close. They have to hold hands to get the job done. Lately, I’ve been in a mood where I don’t super want my stories to have romance in them but this is one where I’m rooting for there to be a romance between these two!

Since the show is due to hit us a the end of the month, we do have a teaser!

GAAH! That looks both adorable, awesome, and possibly scary. I love the tone you’re getting here. Even with the synopsis and pics, I wouldn’t have anticipated the world this show is going to create. It’s official. I can’t wait for this The School Nurse Files!
