BL and Bubbles – Belated December Additions

Posted by Stephanie on December 15, 2020

BL

As we’re halfway through the month it seems like it might be past time to talk about the month’s additions to the BL and Bubbles options for December. Turns out though, December is a quiet month for BL. It’s probably because they are gearing up to come out of 2021 swinging. Srsly. So. Many. BLs! But as we’re still swallowing down as many BLs as we can, the lack of big shows this month means we actually have a chance to catch up on some, finish a bunch, start ones we’ve been meaning to get to, shows we waited on, and shows that, even though I hunt these things pretty hard, we missed in the last few months. Seriously, Alix and I will sit there watching TV and Youtube will just suggest a new one we’ve never heard of… at least once a Saturday. So many. Some people might say too many… but some people are dumb.

So here is a list of our show updates, what we’ve finished, what we’re still watching, shows scheduled to start in December, and shows we missed adding to the BL lists earlier this year.

First, our monthly update:

Finished Shows
Boyband Love – this show was ridiculous. One where you get to the end on and go….why did we watch that? Not to mention the last episode is essentially a concert where they sing multiple songs, each one with its own set of flashbacks. Dude. The show wasn’t that long, did we need THAT many flashbacks?

Love By Chance 2: A Chance to Love – didn’t think I was going to love this one and while I didn’t love the whole thing (raise your hand if Ae irritated the bejeesus out of you), this was a solid show. And believe it or not? TinCan is actually a solid couple. Once they get together, bad things happen, as with all shows, but they were a couple dealing with it. A nice refreshing change. I look forward to rewatching this one.

My Gown and Your Gear – can I tell you just how much I HATED that last episode? The fact that what’s his face didn’t fight for Itt at all? It actually made me angry. The second couple is worth the watch though, again, a totally solid couple who had issues and then talked about them. They were frank and honest about STDs and taking care of themselves. I’d watch a whole series on just this couple.

Like In The Movies – If you haven’t seen this show, please go out and watch it, even if you’re not a huge BL fan. It’s a solid show about stepping outside of yourself in order to grow, standing up for yourself even if it’s to those who you love the most. I cried. In a good way, but I cried. Such a good show.

Boys Lockdown –  This was a cuuuuute little series. Both of these boys were completely adorable and I’d love to see more from the show. One note though? I did have an issue with how they faced the COVID issue at the end. A show about being safe, protecting yourself, and then “meh, it’s okay, because we really like each other, it’ll be totally fine. Five-second rule, right?” If you saw this you know what I’m talking bout. Put your fucking masks on, one of you has asthma and the other one lives with a sister who is already terrified of him bringing something home. Ugh. You guys are lucky you’re so cute.

Cravings – Meh. This was okay. I said it on the podcast, it’s another show where the second couple was actually a lot more compelling.

Currently Watching

Thonlon Chonlatee – This is, I want to say, a little campy? I find Chonlatee super adorable, Thonlon dumber than a brick, and I love the two friends in a secret relationship. I like their relationship so much more in this show than the couple the same actors played in 2Gether. They love each other but they also love their dumbass friend enough to pretend not to be in a relationship for three years because they know he wouldn’t understand it. It will be interesting to see where this one goes.

I’m realizing these updates should just be their own posts!

Ben X Jim – This one is done, with schedules we’re actually behind. I love Ben, I don’t really like Jim. I really hate how he’s hating Ben and, in turn, his girlfriend….because she’s still his girlfriend as he wimped out on breaking up with her, telling her they were just cooling down, while telling Ben he’d broken up with her. Ugh. Heel. You’re not cute enough to get away with that crap. Actually, I’m a big anti-cheater so even if he was cuter? I’d still be mad at him.

Okay, let’s get into the upcoming shows/shows we missed!

12/1

Cheat The SeriesCheat the series 6 eps

CHEAT is a new boys’ love (BL) series made in the Philippines which breaks the mold of conventional BL stories; gone is the shock value of two boys falling in love — that’s a fact that has been a reality since humans first populated the earth. CHEAT accepts this as part of normal life, and instead has created a serial story that deals with the themes of stolen innocence, jealousy, lust, betrayal, and under the genre of psychological thriller, CHEAT delves into the maelstrom of intimate relationships within a tightly knit family –- all of this with an underlying backdrop of witchcraft and the supernatural — a theme so very popular with Filipino audiences.

CHEAT revolves around five main young characters; an innocent young man, Vee, who has had an unusual sheltered upbringing. Vee lives with his full-time guardian, an apostolic nun. The series concerns the effect that Vee has on 3 siblings: Dong, Jennifer, and Jay. The siblings live with their mother who dabbles in witchcraft. Their father, who is never seen, left the family to be with his Mistress who makes up the eighth character in the entire series.

Will We Watch? Ummmm Probs not.

Dec 3rd

SaifahZon Story (2020) 3 eps

The missing story of SaifahZon.

Will we watch? Of course, we’re going to watch this! Even though I don’t think it’s actually necessary, I love the puppy that is Saifah so much, I’ll watch these extra three episodes.

Dec 4th

WISH YOU: Your Melody In My Heart 8 eps

A free-spirited singer whose love of music has him performing on the streets, Kang In Soo’s life revolves completely around music. Supported by his friends, In Soo hopes to someday turn his love of music into a full-time career, but doing so isn’t easy. Refusing to give up on his dreams, In Soo continues busking, day in and day out, while his best friend, Choi Min Sung, records his performances and uploads them on YouTube. Little does either of them know that In Soo’s performances have caught the attention of someone who could change the young musician’s life forever.

A keyboardist working at a major record company, Yoon Sang Yi is always on the lookout for new talent. After stumbling upon In Soo’s videos, Sang Yi has become one of the singer’s biggest fans. Convinced In Soo could make it big, he recommends the young artist join his company’s rookie discovery project. Seeing this opportunity in this invitation, In Soo accepts the offer and soon moves into the company residence with Sang Yi.

As the two live and work together, their relationship grows, and slowly, new feelings begin to blossom. Unfortunately, as their feelings grow, so do the obstacles that stand in their way. Will In Soo and Sang Yi be able to find a way to overcome the trials before them or will their love fade before ever having a chance to fully bloom?

Will We Watch? That’s just asking a silly question. Korean BL? We’re so in! Although, we will wait for it to be over first, so we can binge it all.

Your Home  8 eps

Imagine a world where boys’ love is normal. You don’t have to prove yourself more just because you’re gay or different. No judgy stares and harsh whispers from strangers or even from family.

Our story is about the coming of age of two boys that are feeling alone and their adventures to find a place they can call home.

Welcome to our world.

Welcome to Your Home.

Will We Watch? Yep. This is one we’ve actually been pretty excited for since we first watched the teaser. Filipino BLs are where it’s at.

Dec 9

My Bromance 2.5

My Bromance 2: 5 Years Later 9 eps

Five years have passed since Golf “passed away”. Bank has never forgotten the love and sacrifice from his step-brother. On the day of his graduation from a university in Chiang Mai, Bank found out that Golf is actually still alive. The two brothers will finally meet again with many unanswered questions during those five years, in a time where society has changed. And their new and old friends are ready to help them grow their love tree again.

Will We Watch? Nope. We haven’t seen the other ones and I don’t love Fluke so I can see it being a pretty desperate time for us to say “Hey, wanna watch Bromance?”

December 21

Meet Me Outside BL

Meet Me Outside  6 eps

Meet Me Outside is an upcoming Filipino (Pinoy) boys’ love (BL) miniseries from Blued Philippines.

Will We Watch? I don’t really know what the show is about, thanks to the no synopsis situation, but the teaser seems sweet.

December 22

The Cupid Coach BL

The Cupid Coach 10 eps

Latte is a young footballer who has to rest during competition season due to a knee injury. During this time, he decides to open a coffee shop with one of his friends on the team, Arty.  Latte is determined to become a football player again until Nam Nam, a close friend, brings over Phudit. Physiotherapy becomes the starting point of their love. What will happen to the love of these two people when a handsome young cupid comes to help them, but unexpected events occur?

Will We Watch? I feel like the question should be “When will you put a teaser out? Your show is almost here, bro.” The synopsis seems cute, so I can’t see us passing on this one.

Dramas we missed!

Amore the series 30 eps Started 8/7

Two college dorm mates (Joey and Jimmy) tried to hide a baby inside the boys dormitory. While studying, they both decided to secretly take care of the baby, but also became secretly in love with each other.

When they got caught about their secret, the question of “Who is the real father?” spread to the entire school rapidly, and the revelation changed their lives and the people around them.

Will We Watch? Ummmm I seriously hate this type of camera usage. Like, it takes me right out of the drama so it’s not going to be one I suggest we watch. I mean, I won’t say no, but meh.

Unexpected 8/15 3 eps

Ken is looking for a chat mate but unfortunately, he finds a chat mate who is a bisexual that Ken didn’t know about.

Will We Watch? Given the fact I couldn’t find a teaser and the synposis leaves a lot to be desired, its not going topsies on the list.

Swap Test

Swap Test 10/23 13 eps

The love story of a brokenhearted male nurse and a struggling college student amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines is roughly tested when they swapped situations, plans, and principles as they face their haunting past.

Will We Watch? Ummm what the fudge is this thing? It definitely is not the quality we’ve been seeing from The Philippines. Or, actually, it’s probably along the quality of Boyband Love, which took some getting into. Maybe a binge? If we’re desperate for something to watch?

Better Days  Oct 30, 2020 6 eps

Better Days tells the story of two childhood friends who use their talents as a vlogger and chef to revive the restaurant their parents built.

Will We Watch? Yep. Solid yep. It actually keeps going on the long shortlist of “what we should watch next” and yet we could never remember what the name of it was. I think the conversation always goes… “Don’t forget that one, the blogger, and the food guy? We have to watch that one still. What’s the name? Ummm….”

Influencers  11/18 8 eps

Rooted from the harsh society, and the indifferences we’re facing at this age. A blossom of love and awakening is set to make a footprint.

We are made to celebrate and recognize truth and diversity. Because love knows no judgment and everyone deserves it.

In love, all of us are equal.

Will We Watch? Ehh… TBH, I didn’t make it through the trailer.

So Much to watch! Next Up? BL AND CHRISTMAS! Yes, since Alix and I are both solo this year, we’re going to spend the holiday watching BL and eating holiday themed foods. I think we’re going to watch all new shows. So, what shows are you looking forward to? Did you catch any of these shows we missed? What did you think?
