My Roommate is a Gumiho

Could you imagine how much vacuuming that would entail? I’m thinking a life-size dog with 9 tails. I’m not sure there’s enough Hoover in the world to take care of that mess. But they probably weren’t thinking about those details when creating the upcoming show, My Roommate is a Gumiho. Good thing that hero looks like he has some muscle!

My Roommate is a Gumiho appears to be a fun take on the classic Gumiho story. Instead of the standard lady gumiho, this time we have the male of the species. I wonder, do they have to eat all the livers too? Or is that just the female gumiho? (And how many times do I have to write gumiho before Grammarly officially throws its hands in the air and gives up trying to spell check me?) Looks like I have to do some classic Korean folktale research! Anyway, we know that the male of the species goal is to become human. This one has a small marble that the heroine accidentally swallows…I’m currently NOT trying to wrap my brain around how that happens. It gets caught in her throat, as marbles do, does NOT kill her (thank goodness it’s magical), and hero has to get it back within a year or it will break and the poor thing will never become human. The only solution?

Cohabitation.

Sure. That makes sense. Gotta keep your eye on the prize, or your eye on the throat that holds the prize. They have to figure out a way for her to cough it up without damaging it in order for him to get it back. So, that being the case, I’m guessing losing one’s magical life marble doesn’t happen on the regular.

The show stars Jang Ki Yong, who I had to google a bit to find out who he was, and learned he has QUITE the long list of shows under his belt, starting acting in 2014 with a guest roll in Its Okay That’s Love. Awww… He’s quickly risen up the ranks since then hitting shows like Born Again, Search WWW, and Come and Hug Me. (I do love a show that stars a solid actor!) The heroine of our story, a 22-year-old college student who has a habit of swallowing marbles that don’t belong to her is Girls Day Hyeri who starred in Reply 1988 and awwww looks like both of them had roles in Seonam Girls’ High School Investigators! So they meet again.

I’ve never actually watched a gumiho show. I know there have been a few of them, some of them usually on everyone’s must-watch list, and yet, here I am. I know I’m only looking at the poster and those can be hella deceiving, but it looks like this one could be cuteness and light, which is where I live right now. Since the show doesn’t premier until after Mouse, which means the end of May, its going to be a while before this comes out, but at least we’ll have a few teasers to look forward to until then, right?
