BL and Bubbles Calendar: May Edition

New month doesn’t just mean turning the page on my A.C.E calendar, it also means checking out all the shows we have to add onto our BL watching schedule! Is anyone else getting a little stressed about it? Perhaps its because we only watch once a week, and schedules have been a little crazy, but yeesh, there are almost too many shows to keep up on! We’ve been reduced to creating a spreadsheet, and going at our drama watching more strategically in order to get some of these shows in.

Though May may be helping us here!

I don’t know if I just haven’t found all the shows for May, but this schedule is the lightest I’ve seen since I’ve been doing these posts! Six shows! We have only SIX shows to worry about adding into the rotation and not a lot of them are high on my “gotta watch” lists. My first instinct was to panic, but then looking back, we’ve had BL lulls before. I want to say either this same time last year, or heading into it. I remember sitting on Alix’s backporch (social distanced BL!) watching some of the “I guess we’ll watch this if we get desperate” shows.

I’m almost grateful for the break!

As always, before we talk about what’s coming, let’s chat the shows we’ve finished or are working on during April.

Currently watching:

Lovely Writer – This show is so freaking cute. I really enjoyed where they took it. We’re about three episodes away from the end, they just announced it to the family and are dealing with the fallout. I LOVE how Gene is standing up for himself and his love. We’ve had so many shows where the lead caves instantly to his disapproving family (Boo My Gown and Your Gear, boo). While I super don’t care about the Aoey and his storyline, the rest of it is darling.

HIStory 4: Close To You – There are things I love, love, love about this show and things that make me want to cringe and run away, ie, I love the friend couple and HATE the stepbrother couple so much it hurts. I just love how we’re explaining away, just making okay, what was essentially rape. And its not like that’s where I started disliking the pairing, I really disliked both of those characters even before that happened. The whole thing leaves an UGH taste in my mouth, but the other couple is so sweet, I’m in it for the long haul.

Completed :

Tale of a Thousand Stars – This show made me so swoony I just want everyone to run out and watch it. If you’re someone in it for the physical action, (you know who you are) this is not the show for you, but if you love a good loving, “I’m enchanted by you gaze”, a sweet story, and some solid acting, pick it up! Its def one I’ll watch again.

 

New Shows for May!

 

May 7th

Nitiman the Series

Jinake Saman is the university moon in the engineering faculty, known across the whole campus as the hottest moon. There was the saying among the campus “Nothing and no one was hotter than Mr. Jin!” One day when his girlfriend broke up with him, he fell apart in despair. He later discovered that the girl who broke his heart was the cousin of law student Bom. Jin misunderstands that Bom and his cousin were flirting when actually he likes Jin. Bom has liked him since he was a freshman one year ago after Jin exchanged Bom’s lunchbox (because he couldn’t eat anything spicy) with his own food and rice. As feelings grow between them, can Jin understand Bom’s true intentions and come to see Bom as more than just a junior?

Will We Watch? Actually, I have a question for you. Did you watch the teaser? Did it make any sense to you? Why are there soooo many characters? While I can’t say we’re NOT going to watch, I can’t say it looks like the big quality shows we’ve been getting. But I look forward to being wrong! 

 

May 8th

Love Area (10 Eps)

Valen, a young man born on Valentine’s Day but has never known love – not even the love of his parents. And he meets someone who shows him compassion and tenderness.

Will We Watch? Perhaps it’s me, perhaps it’s trailers tonight but here’s another one where the trailer doesn’t make me go I NEED TO SEE THIS SHOW. But the premise sounds good so we’ll watch it! 

 

May 14th

Top Secret Together 

The story of 5 couples in which each of them concealed secrets. They have a different meaning of love, both secret and love. In which path will they go? And how they will solve their problems?

Will We Watch? At least this one comes out and says “We have a shit ton of couples so don’t even try and understand the trailer.” Thanks guys, helpful. There is actually a bunch of shows this BL season which are omnibus shows, YDestiny, Close Friend, This one, and possibly some of these other ones. Well…that’s a trend. It will be interesting to see how they try and cram so many storylines into a single show.

May 20th

Be Loved In House – I Do (12 Eps)

The story begins with the ‘Seisei Studio’, which was founded about 10 years ago. It was in danger of becoming bankrupt. Fortunately, Jin Yu Zhen, a person who excels in management appears, and that person becomes the new director. However, the atmosphere of the studio changed completely on the first day he came as a director. He gave only one “Single rule”, which is to prohibit the marriage and romance between the employees, and those who violate the rule will be dismissed… The employees of ‘Seisei Studio’collude with a secret plan to abolish the “Single rule”. The tsundere employee, Shei Lei approached the director and tries to get the evidence of the love of this domineering director, but as a result of various encounters, He found out that the tryant director is hurt by loneliness and past love. Knowing that he still has a heart, Shei Lei curiosity about Yu Zhen was aroused…..

Will We Watch? Well, I think I figured out the issue I was having with not liking/caring about the trailers. Realized I was watching at double speed. HAHAHA. Whoops. I like the switch here of the nice boss and the irritable employee. I’m looking forward to this one! 

May 22nd

Gameboys 2

This will be the second season of Gameboys.

Will We Watch? I can’t imagine that we won’t? But let me tell you the baby, baby, BABEEEE, Baby, Baby, BaBE, Baby, baby, babbbby, baby was starting to get old in season 1 and with them actually together in season two as a couple? And BOTH of them using it? My ears might start to bleed. But, with Gameboys def being one of the highlights of 2020, I’ll be interested to see where they take this show. 

 

May 27th

I Promised You The Moon (5 Eps)

(Sequel to I Told the Sunset About You) Teh and Oh-aew were best friends until a boyhood line of reasoning turned them into rivals.

Years later as they’re preparing for university admissions, both pursuing interests in the field of Communication Arts, the two meet in a Chinese language class.

Their reunion awakens complicated and unstable feelings.

Part 2 is a continuation of the freshly united lovers’ story as they begin College.

Will We Watch? Well, I wasn’t able to get a good teaser, and now’s probably the best time to admit, we never actually watched I Told the Sunset About You. At first, we were waiting for the show to end and then…we maybe just forgot. It would always come up…”oh, right what was that show everyone went crazy over last year? We should watch that one…” and then we’d move on. But we should watch it. Then we can talk about watching this one.
