Casting News

Song Ji Hyo as a villain? Is she a villain? Is this really Song Ji Hyo? How thrilled are my friends, the McFeeleys going to be when they realize one of their first K-Loves is going to be in a new drama? These are all burning questions we’re going to try and solve with info on the upcoming drama, The Witch’s Diner.

First off, I think we can all agree that Song Ji Hyo looks amazing in this. And, with all her time on Running Man, we know she has the wit, cunning, and underlying malice to be able to pull off a darker character. Has she even tried one before? I was pretty surprised when I saw this show up in my feed, but it definitely caught my attention, which is exactly what I look for in a new drama.

My second thought when I did more research about this show is, don’t this sound awfully like Mystic Pop Up Bar? Except I guess, it doesn’t sound so much as this witch isn’t trying to help people’s souls, but eat them.

Here’s the synopsis from MyDramaList:

This series tells the stories of desperate people who come by to eat a magical dish with the hopes of having their personal wishes granted, even at the expense of their own souls. Jo Hee Ra has already lost count of the years that she has spent alive. She has a feeling, though, that she has already become older than any known human in history. She chose to turn into a sorceress after suffering a tragic fate in her twenties and is now co-running a mysterious restaurant with a woman named Jin.

Looking at the cast list, Song Ji Hyo plays Jo Hee Ra, so she’s snatching people’s souls but she has a tragic backstory so it’s cool.

Here’s the teaser:

So, this looks like it’s going to be fun summer campy fun with a case of the week story being threaded together with Jo Hee Ra’s tragic backstory. Possibly with lots of yummy food to look at? In the teaser, Song Ji Hyo does seem to really pull off malice well so I really can’t see anything that would stop us from looking forward to this show. I want to say it’s been a while since I’ve seen her act in anything, but now that I think back, I think the only show I’ve seen her in is Running Man. How can that be? She’s an actress in her thirties with a heavy history in both dramas and movies? Interesting.

It looks like the show is going to come out in July and since I’m going to be on vacation with Song Ji Hyo stans the McFeeleys, I think I might just be able to convince them to watch this with me!
