BL and Bubbles Calendar: Shows Premiering in July!

BL

As I mentioned before, the last couple of months were a little light on BL allowing us Bubble Tea Drinkers/BL watchers time to catch up. And catch up we did! This is both good and bad timing, good because we only have a few weeks before, due to us each taking some vacation time, we’re going to be without BL for THREE weeks and bad because BL is definitely revving back up, refilling that schedule, making sure we’re going to be quickly behind again. This July post brings us shows we’re excited about, shows we didn’t know about, some shows we forgot to mention in June, and the release of one show that had been put on hold due to the rise of COVID in Thailand!

First off, our report card:

Currently Watching –

YDestiny – We’re almost done! I’ve been enjoying this, but funnily enough, the one couple we were waiting for, episode 13-14, we started watching this weekend, and it was so SLOOOOW, we couldn’t watch it. If I had to watch either one of the guys in this couple look meaningfully at each other while a soft piano played one more time….
Nitiman – Continues to be super cute. I feel like Jin is coming along nicely, but I’m solidly #TeamBBomb with his quiet, longing looks.
Be Loved In House – In the last episode, we met Jerkwad who must have hurt our hero in the past and is coming back to get what he thinks is his. Since we’re just like two episodes away from the end, I’m hoping that they send him packing right back to where he came from. Also, anyone else get the idea he’s totally mafia?
Stuck On You – I think this is our first Filipino show this year, and, well, I’m not loving it. I find Reb irritating and I’m not certain how they are going to be able to come back from that.
Golden Blood – Speaking of mafia! Golden Blood just started so we gave it a go. I should be able to say more than… amazing sets, I love every couch and I want to live in that house, but, I think it’s going to take a few episodes to settle into this one. It seems like it might be a bit of a knockoff KinnPorche but again, we’ll see.

Completed Shows –

Fish Upon the Sky – While the bit with the girl got a little eye-rolly, and the reasoning behind Pi’s reluctance to let anyone know they were in a relationship was written a bit clunkily, all in all, this was a super cute show that I’d totally watch again.
Lovely Writer – We still actually have to watch the special episode, so I’m not certain that this should be here, but we finally made it through the last painful episodes, and yes, they were PAINFUL. I do love that they let the bad guy actually get his in the end, in this case, making him be completely alone and unloved, which seemed to be one of his fears. The way that it ended, if in three years he comes back and is actually a better person and in the special episode finally gets his happy ending, I’ll be okay with that as I feel like though he’s a real sucky person right now, there’s still room for him to grow. I could just watch that main couple for days though, GenSib were just awesome and despite Gene’s freak out, were actually a pretty solid, stable relationship…which is why I’m NOT looking forward to watching the extra episode.
Papa and Daddy – DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW. Srsly. I’m STILL angry about it weeks later. The show itself, a Gagaoolala exclusive, is cute enough, but the last episode, the very ending went and ruined it. Now people will say, “They were planning a season 2!” I don’t even CARE. There is no way they can get out of what happened, the secret Damian had been keeping from Jerry and have it be the same show.

Inn Love – 8 Eps

Gino Nathaniel Reyes, a writer who works in an advertising agency, aims to finish his script immediately for an upcoming digital campaign. Due to his current situation, he struggles to construct his piece. Alex Delos Reyes, a freelance model who often shows vulnerability, is trying to move forward from a heartbreak. The two men opt to visit Tanggap Kita or TK resort which is distant from the city — a place for them to accept possible circumstances. A close friend of Gino and the assistant manager of TK resort, Leslie Abad, helps him cope with his situation while staying inside the resort. Unknowingly, Gino and Alex stay in one Villa amidst having an unpleasant first meeting. Gino eventually develops feelings for Alex. Louise Katindig, the manager of TK resort, becomes interested in Alex and the situation turns out to be complicated for Gino.

Will We Watch? Well, that’s a bit of a mess of a synopsis, but if I’m interpreting it properly, this looks like it could be a cute show. Plus I love a good punny name.

Worth The Wait – 10 Eps

This series continues the story of My Toxic Lover.

Will We Watch? Well, we haven’t yet watched My Toxic Lover, dude, I didn’t even know the show was already over, so the fact that they already have a season two premiering? Yeesh.

June 18th

What If Its Us (Paano Kaya Kung Tay) – 9 Eps

Paano Kaya Kung Tayo is about boys from different worlds defying the impossible to make love possible.

Will We Love? That’s a crap synopsis, but the poster makes me go…hello there… BL love triangle? Perhaps!

June 28th

Ossan’s Love (15 Eps)

Tin Yat Hung, a single guy, has been unsuccessful in getting a girlfriend. One day, he discovers that his boss, KK, secretly collects photos of him and he soon learns that KK is in love with him. Unsettled by KK’s bold confession and romantic pursuit, Tin Yat Hung seeks advice from his friends and discovers that his male coworker, Siu Muk, is also in love with him. Caught in a love triangle, Yat Hung navigates through his feelings for his two love interests.

Will We Watch? This is actually a remake of a Japanese BL that I was never able to get my hands on, so if we can find a solid copy of the Hong Kong version, I’d like to give it a try!

In This Kaleidoscope World – 8 Eps

In this kaleidoscope world, we meet true friends along the way. This is a story about the complicated love among friends. It’s about a three-way love.

Will We Watch? Meh. Don’t know why, but that’s what I’ve got for you. Can’t say we won’t watch it, but it will have to be an Alix suggestion.

July 1st

DanDanSoy (8 Eps)

This is about love in unexpected circumstance and place

Will We Watch? May need to give me more info than what you’ve got there, Show, but the arms on these guys have me going, “Yeah, sure, sign me up.”

July 4th

The Secret (Love) – 1 Ep

A prequel to Don’t Say No The Series, it details the relationship of Leo and Fiat from longtime friends to lovers.

Will We Watch? Probably not until Don’t Say No comes out, which I think is next month. Might as well watch them both together.

July 9th

The Best Story – 3 Eps

Best, a guy who sucks no matter what he does – contrast to his own name, fell for Dew, the hottest guy of the class and the top popular guy in school. His love agenda got his friends involved – Bright & Ray – who had to help him.
Best could only watch Dew from afar, never had a chance to confess. But one day, as if god was on his side, he got to know Dew‘s best friends – Dave & Tar, and got into the music club with no clue.
Then his love story started…

Will We Watch? Its been a while since we watched a high school drama! Actually, that’s a lie, Second Chance the series the show we apparently abandoned for a later date was high school.

July 15th

The Yearbook – 10 Eps

A series that will bring you back to the early 2000 and the deep connection between Phob and Nut when the two of them promised to follow their dreams together. Unfortunately, someone didn’t keep the promise and that led to disagreements. There was only pain left between them. Finally, they parted ways. Four years later, the yearbook brings that one friend

Will We Watch? I feel like the answer will end up being yes, but with this premise, someone is going to have to drag me kicking and screaming there.

July 17th

Given – 6Eps

Tightly clutching his Gibson guitar, Mafuyu Satou steps out of his dark apartment to begin another day of his high school life. While taking a nap in a quiet spot on the gymnasium staircase, he has a chance encounter with fellow student Ritsuka Uenoyama, who berates him for letting his guitar’s strings rust and break. Noticing Uenoyama’s knowledge of the instrument, Satou pleads for him to fix it and to teach him how to play. Uenoyama eventually agrees and invites him to sit in on a jam session with his two band mates: bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji.

Satou’s voice is strikingly beautiful, filling Uenoyama with the determination to make Satou the lead singer of the band. Though reticent at first, Satou takes the offer after an emotional meeting with an old friend. With the support of his new friends, Satou must not only learn how to play guitar, but also come to terms with the mysterious circumstances that led him to be its owner.

Will We Watch? The Japanese shows are harder to get our hands on, but this sounds cute, we’ve liked the other Japanese shows we’ve been able to watch, so if we have a chance, we’ll totally give it a try.

Love Area – 10 Eps

Valen, a young man born on Valentine’s Day but has never known love – not even the love of his parents. And he meets someone who shows him compassion and tenderness.

Will We Watch? This is the one that was actually already on the list previously but got pulled from the schedule due to a COVID outbreak. Looks like they are finally ready to give it another try! Feels like we should do our part and support them 😀

July 23rd

Call It What You Want 2 – 6 Eps

The boys unite against sexual misconduct in the BL industry and they will receive the help of someone unexpected…

Will We Watch? Wellllll we didn’t watch season 1, I’m pretty irritated with Gagaoolala (who put this show out) after Papa & Daddy, and I don’t know if I want to watch a show about the dark side of BL. I’m sure there is one, but this is one of my light spots right now, so I’d like to keep it that way for a while longer. Thanks, no thanks.
