We’ve talked a lot on the site about idols who really, truly are insanely talented and driven, but just can’t seem to catch a break. Solo artists like Woodz and groups like IMFACT work their asses off and produce exceptional music but unfortunately, there is a finite number of fans in the world and they’re too damned distracted by their biases to pay attention to these incredible performers. This is one of the myriad reasons I continue to sample and try and taste everything I can get my hands on.
One of the ways that these persistent and hungry artists try to boost their own and their group’s visibility is by participating in survival shows or garnering attention through acting. Some talented idols are able to do both. Enter, Lee Jun Young (AKA Jun) from U-Kiss and a member of the project group UNB from The Unit. Jun was announced as a new member of U-Kiss in time for their 9th mini album in 2014 and after a couple of years, he made his acting debut while also taking part in variety and survival programs to continue to build a following.
I got to know Jun through The Unit, but honestly didn’t really sit up and pay attention until I devoured Imitation each week as the episodes were released and eventually subbed. He’s fabulous at what he does and has the absolute best goofy smile at just the right moments. 10/10, totally recommend watching him. When it was announced that JR from Nu’est was participating in his first drama as part of an idol group, I have to admit that I was a little nervous. I am wary of my favs taking on a big role right out of the acting gate as there is no guarantee that they’ll be any good. I don’t want to see anyone struggle and especially not someone I’m cheering on with all of my heart. But when I found out that Jun would be the lead of this drama, a sense of relief washed over my trepidatious little soul. He has good taste in dramas, natural talent, and experienced acting chops. JR will be in good hands, and hopefully a good drama.
