Casting News

Jaehyun, Jaehyun, Jaehyun! Have I mentioned lately what a big fan of his I am? I should probably clarify I’m a fan of him as an idol with his position with NCT 127 (and all various other iterations of NCT) as, after the last minute ‘postponement’ of his last drama, Dear.M I’ve yet to see him act in anything. I was beginning to wonder after what happened before if he’d give acting another try and I’m happy to say, he is!

It was recently announced that Jeong Jaehyun was cast in the upcoming (still in the casting stages) drama Bungee Jumping of Their Own. The funny thing is I didn’t get the news from a regular news source but instead I was inundated with notifications from all the BL Instagrams I follow. (And I follow a fair amount.) Why are they in such a tizzy? Did Jaehyun sign up for a BL? (Let’s all take a moment to swoon over that possibility before I break your bubble.) No, he didn’t sign up for a BL, he signed up for a remake of a movie under the same title Bungee Jumping of Their Own. So why are the BL sites so excited? Well, after the movie Bungee Jumping of Their Own was out, a BL adaptation called Dew: The Movie was created. (Here I should say that Dew: The Movie is one I haven’t seen yet but is Junior McFeeley’s FAVORITE.)

Here is the premise of the original movie starring Lee Byeong Hun and Lee Eun Joo:

In Woo and Tae Hee are two college freshmen who didn’t believe in love at first sight but later find themselves wrapped in a deep relationship that would last forever. One day, they vow to make their love eternal by sealing it with a bungee jump. But their promise is never fulfilled when Tae Hee suddenly disappears out of In Woo’s life for what seems like an eternity. Seventeen years later, In Woo is still unable to get Tae Hee out of his mind even though he’s married and has a loving family. While giving a lecture to his students, In Woo is reminded of the memorable times he spent with Tae Hee when one of the students asks about his first love experience. From this point on, In Woo thinks nothing of it until the student rehashes habits and sayings that are so reminiscent of Tae Hee. Clinging to his hope that he will meet Tae Hee once more, a strange mystery unfolds as In Woo tries to discover who this student really is.

I’m seeing how this could easily be gender-swapped to make it into a BL.

From what I understand this is not a story with a happy ending, one with more of a bittersweet ending. It’s interesting to see them toss Jaehyun into something that isn’t a comedy, which is usually where casting directors stick newbie idol actors. It makes me wonder if someone was able to see some of Dear.M and saw maybe he’s a good actor? While I was not one of those people who were able to see the drama, just from his presence, I can believe that he’d be a good actor. Though also as someone who IS a fangirl of the idol, I do wish that we would be able to see him in something a little happier, something I can swoon over. But either way? I’m here for you Jaehyun!

I mean….and the show.

Since the show isn’t even set to begin filming until January 22, we have quite some time before we’re going to get anything more than casting news on the drama for a while.
